Not asking for a religious debate as such, but:

There seem to be more people advocating religion on here than I find in everyday life.

Do you think the proportions are about the same as in real life - just that they're more vocal about it;

Or might any religious types seek out places like this as a forum to spread the word?

This is an easier place for Christians to spread the word because we can answer people's spiritual questions. It's not as easy to bring it up in other places.

people who are religious i usually find want everyone to agree that their beliefs are right. I just saw a question on racism and in the first answer someone started talking about jesus. I think they probably use it as a forum as u can't miss what they're saying easily. They know that what they write is visible to anyone else who views the question and if one person considers what they say, then it has been a worthwhile effort.
I've noticed a lot of these people in everyday life, though. There's always a catholic aunt or uncle extolling the virtues of a strict religious life. Jehova's witnesses go door to door looking to convert people. There is always at least one person with a bible and a banner in the middle of the high street urging you to see the light. Religion is built that way,i guess. Spreading the good news and all that.
Personally, i'd prefer not to be innundated with everyone else's religions, but it seems i don't have a choice.

I think one of the biggest reasons is because the religious people are forced to defend themselves against the atheists who often post stuff such as "God isn't real?" or "Science is proof that God doesn't exist?" or stuff like that and then people defend themselves because they don't like what was said. That's one reason the religion and spirituality section gets so heated. If people would just leave others alone and not say "You're stupid if you think God exists," I think that this would be down a lot. Then other religious people just have questions. They have a right to ask those on here. Sure, there is some people who advocate it on here, but they are entitled to say what they will, as long as it follows the guidelines.

It's easier to get on this site and talk because it's a little more anonymous.

But when I went to school at the University of Florida, religious groups would hire speakers to stand in the plazas and preach and people would yell at them and debate. There were Krishnas, Baptists, cult members, a few Muslims--it was great. It was really invigorating to see that kind of passion and argument over religion. People really got into it. But G'ville is a somewhat unusual town in that respect. In the "real world"--religion is a little more of a touchy subject and people don't want to just come out and yell about it. But I never back down from a good religious argument, in real life or e-life.

That's an interesting question.
I am a Christian and use this forum for all kinds of reasons, not just religious ones, although I have voiced my opinion on religious issues and also discussed my faith.
I think the ratios are about the same as in real life, but because religious and philosophocal questions are asked, we answer them from our position of faith and belief.
Personally, I am not seeking this out as a forum to spread the Word, but it is as good a medium as any, so why not use it when the opportunity arises?

Hope this helps and God bless you:>)

I am a Christian above all else, so when I answer questions about life, I include my Christian beliefs. I'm not trying to convert or force my beliefs on anyone - I'm simply giving my opinion according to my way of life (or beliefs). I do that in life too, but I don't often have "strangers" I meet in person asked my opinion about society, culture, etc. as they do here on Yahoo! Answers. I'm on this site for the same reasons many people are - to help others or provide answers based on my knowledge, experience, and resources. I'm not a "religious type" (and I'm not even sure what that is - you're either religious or you're not) trying to spread the Word. I'm simply answering questions the way I know how.

I dont quite agree.

I find that most people here does not know much about religion or at least have different views on the other religion based on their own perceptions.

There was also a lot of questions which I find it plain, those things we always took for assumption that the answers are just common sense or a common knowledge known to all.

It is my hope that people understand each other's thinking and feeling by getting the correct informations.

It only then we all can together live in peace on this earth.

There are 101 reasons why people will speak out openly about Faith: Christianity: & Religion on a forum such as this… but not out in the open!!

This is a Great forum to spread the word...

It is impersonal...
It’s Anonymous...
It’s non-embarrassing to your face…
Does not give you an argument back to your face...
Does not give instant mockery or abuse...
Does not throw an impromptu awkward question at you...
Gives you the option to ‘Ignore’ or ‘Pass on a question you don’t like…
Does not shoot you dead in the street…

I have to admit… myself: Lord forgive me, included… that if the Christians on here argued: fought & stood up for what they believe: witnessed etc, etc, etc, out in the world in public for all to hear: as they do in answering questions… Our numbers would double in a week!!! LOL

God bless…

Well, I come to these forums to take part in interesting discussions. Some of the questions are thought provoking and occasionally I can even provide an answer. It would seem, however that you would find an abundance of religious people in a section of Yahoo devoted to religious questions, though.

Religious people using a religion and spirituality forum? Where's the surprise in that? WHo would you expect to find here? People discussing the relative benefits of their favourite motorbike?
