even if they are content or rich, treat them like a normal person if you give them a gift or something, give them something they like or are interested in like you would to someone who is not like them...what they don't have yet is whatever YOU will give them

I know some people who could buy just about anything they want. One thing I noticed is that they usually appreciate receiving things that they are into, whether expensive or not. For example, does this person smoke? Give him his favorite brand. Does he drink tea or coffee? Get him an exotic tea from India or coffee at Starbucks. Loves to watch movies? Get him a movie ticket.
p.s. If he wears a LaCoste, don't get him a JCPenny brand. You get my drift?

Your time. Do things with them that they like to do. Get tickets to a baseball game, reservations at a new restaurant and spend the weekend at the lake with your friends. Pre-plan it and have all the people involved, in on the planning. It's fun... and who doesn't like fun!

I say give them somethin personal, something creative that you make and represents your relationship with them. It shows you care, and put effort into it. All the money in the world can't but something thoughtul and personal.

A nicely bound book of photos of you both. A nice book that you think she/he would enjoy. Something more thoughtful than expensive would be in order here, I would think.

Something homemade like a painting or cross stitch. It shows that you took the time because you love and appreciate them.

You can give them a gift card. That way they can buy whatever they want and it saves you the trouble of figuring it out.
