He is a year old and loves to chew on everything. He eats okay and there is nothing unusual that he does. But for the past 2 weeks he dry heaves and every once in a while a clear to yellowish colored mucus will be thrown up. What could this be and should I worry?

My dog occasionally does this, too. She will usually mope around the day after she pukes and I keep an eye on her. Since she recovers on her own, I've never taken her to the vet. I assume it's common...but it would be nice to know.

The yellow stuff is probably bile.

If it happens at roughly the same time every day then try giving him a little food (about a handful) before that time. You may not be feeding the dog enough times every day.

If the dog is taking any medication then you should consider taking him to a vet.

It is not bile, bile is in the intestines. If bile is being thrown up you have big problems. It is just stomach acids. It often happens when the stomach is empty, try feeding more often, or have a snack of a couple treats in between meals

It is probably bile. Does your dog eat fast? He could have a virus. It could be nerves.

I don't know but if you find out, please share the news. My dog does the same thing.
