Make sure you know what you are looking for before you join any of our military services. I say that because you say that you think you could use some boot camp training. Don't confuse boot camp training and serving on the front line.
Boot camp or Basic Combat Training (US Army) is about discipline, getting into top physical shape, induction into the military service, following orders and willingness to make a commitment.
Front line (combat) service is about survival, willing to kill in service to your country (and, as you may learn; protecting the man next to you in a firefight), seeing others die and the possibility of dying.
I am sure you know that this is not a light decision. I commend you for you willingness to serve our country. I am former army and my friend is a former Marine...and I have no doubt USMC boot if tougher than army basic; but my friend and I went through our camps years ago.
I just ask that make sure you want to join the military to serve and not because you "think"you could use some boot camp training....the stakes for you and the men next to you are too high for anything less than your full commitment. Best of luck to you.

You say you want to be "frontline". Well, the Marine Corps is definetly a way to go.
If you chose to go Marines, you would want to become an 0311. That is the MOS number for Marine Corps Infantry Rifleman. A "Grunt".
Your training would go as such:
1) 13 Weeks Basic Training ( Boot Camp )
2) 6 Weeks MCT ( Marine Combat Training )
3) 8 Weeks MOS School ( 0311 ) Infantry School
If you currently live East of the Mississippi River, your basic will be in Parris Island, S.C. and your MOS school will be in Camp Lejeune, N.C.
If you currently leave West of the Mississppi RIver, your basic will be in San Diego, Ca and your MOS school at Camp Pendleton, Ca.

i prefer the army, but that's just because my hubby is in it. however, i did think it would be hilarious if i joined the marines, because their boot camp is harder than the army's basic, and their pt standards are higher as well. lol.
if you are up for a challenge, join the marines. if you don't want to work that hard, join the army(still rough though). if you want the easy way out, go air force. LOL. just kidding. that's a big joke amongst the military. EVERYONE thinks they are better than the next guy.
good luck to you! ;-)

After a few weeks of boot camp, you may be eatin those words. The Marine Corps is looking for guys like yourself, full of piss and vinegar, and there is plenty of action right now, so you shouldn't get turned down for hazardous duty, once you're out of ITR.
Keep up your PMA, it inspires those around you, plus it draws attention to yourself when they are passing out stripes.

Go join the Navy because you dont hear much about people dieing there. Although I dont know you i don't want another American to die in Iraq. So good luck with whatever you choose and if you do join the Marine core always wear your kevlar.
