And I can claim to be the Virgin Mary. That won't make it so.
BTW, the Bible doesn't just contradict science -- it contradicts itself, many times over.

There is a reason that science is called science and religion is called religion. If religion was fact it would be called science not faith. Arguably science is nothing more than theory which has yet to be disproved.
But, the largest difference between science and religion is that science can be applied to the physical world around us and it's effects can be directly monitored and recorded. Faith you could argue is applied by belief or let's say prayer, but it's effects can not be directly monitored and recorded.
Faith, by it's very own nature, weather you be a christian, a jew, a muslim, sheik, etc... contradicts science, and always will. Unless we somehow find a way to quantify the human soul it will remain as such. If we could quantify the human soul some aspects of faith would become science.
The bible is a property of belief system. Since it claims to be the truth it must be regarded the same way as the faith it belongs to. I don't see the bible contradicting science as much as it contradicts many peoples knowledge of history.
Science is my dogma. I'm not an atheist, nor am I agnostic but I do believe that by studding and developing science we are in effect studding gods work. This is how Einstein felt (who was a very religious person) but I wouldn't call the atomic bomb an un-absolute.
If I told you I was god because I say so does it make it true? I think you're confusing peoples ability to question god with being atheist.

I have never said the Bible contradicts science. I don't believe in it's theory of creationism though. Evolution is a partially proved theory but I feel it is far more valid and has more evidence than creationism.
As far as contradictions, I've always said the bible contradicted itself.

Sounds like you answered your own question. Unfortunately you answered wrong. Or at least, I think theres a better way to respond. I would say to the atheist that science and the Bible do not conflict. Remember that our interpretations of both the Bible and of science can be faulty and the supposed contradications between the two are the result of a bad interpretation of either the bible or nature.

If i wrote a book about unicorns taking over the earth and said it was the absolute truth would u believe that too?
Science doesn't claim absolute truth because scientists are smart enough to admit there are things we just dont know and cannot know with out extensive study and understanding. Some Christians aren't smart enough to understand this.

The books of the Bible were written by a group of men (now all dead, of course) who believe that they were writing the truth as they saw it at that time. What truths did you hold to believe true years ago and no longer believe them to be? Where in the Bible, may I humbly ask, is the statement that the absolute truth is being presented written? The preface? The introduction? Postscript? Which translations (i.e. interpretations) of the Bible are you using as your source?

Scientific theory is indeed, not absolute and as you say, it doesn't claim so but this is simply because it tells it as it is. Just because the Bible claims that it is the truth; how does this prove to be the case just because it says so? Such arrogance is highly contemptible.
Such utterances as "The world was built in seven days" are utter nonsense. Would you Adam and Eve it!
Oops! there goes another one!

Even the worst criminal, in front of the public opinion, would swear he told the truth. It is not a compliment for the Bible to put it at the same level of the criminals. On the other hand science has provided some evidence with no need to swear.

A morons can claim to be genius.
That do sent make a moron a genius.
what is universally accepted is the truth.
What has no logic will fade with time and be lost in eternity
like all other fantastic fables.
The earth was never the centre of the universe.
it never will be and it has been proved it is not.
Yet the church prosecuted Galileo.
In time all this mumbojumbo will fade away and philosophy
and logic will reign supreme guided by science.

Im no atheist, but ill put my opinion out there. Scientific Theory is just that a theory that has been tested so many times that is has not been UNPROVEN. You ever gone to school dude? Maybe before you start bringing in reglion and science, you should go take a biology course from a really good teacher, who teaches that science doesnt counteract religion, if anything, it only reiforces it.. many things comes in threes.....
