Stupid question but can I use interior paint outside? I bought a gallon of interior paint to paint a closet door, now I have a lot left and was wondoring if I could paint my wooden bullked(outside door to cellar) door with it. I hate to waste paint.

you could but i do not reccomend it. as a painting contractor , i can tell you it would flake off very quickly, and wouldnt be worth the the effort. the only thing you could do if you were adamant about doing ti would be to oil prime the door with a good primer like X-I-M then top coat it with your interior paint...this may buy some time before it flakes...but it will flake

No you can not use interior paint outdoors unless you feel like repainting after a month or two. When you use interior paint outdoors the heat from the sun will cause it to bubble and chip. It will not last very long and then you will have to sand it down and repaint it frequently.

Technically you can, however, outside paints are made more durable than indoor--for weather and harsh sun, etc. I would save the extra paint for indoor touch-ups, and just buy the outdoor paint for the door. Good luck :)

it will work, but it wont last,as others have said it wont stand up to extremes of temp and moisture like a good quality exterior paint.try dulux weathershield, 1 primer for bare or new wood 2undercoat 3undercoat again 4top coat. remember the finish is only as good as the start, sand down well for a start, sand lightly between coats.

would be a false economy. use correct paints for the specific job. masonry paint for outdoors (brick, render etc) it is weather resistant with fungisides to last 5 years plus, as a rule. same goes for external gloss for wood.

Of course you can use indoor paint outside. It doesn't know where you're using it.

It'll be no good once it's rained though.

You could it just won't last as long in the weather. you may be able to seal it with a weather proof sealer to extend the life of the paint

You can, but please promise not to get upset after it gets rained on.
