i need the name of the sofa type thing which is not on feet but it is directly on the ground. It is basically used for people who sit on the ground. it is like a rectangular matress (about 3 inches high) which is put along the side of the wall and then pillows are put along the back of it for leaning purposes.
Actually I want to buy one for the house but dont know where to go.
I live toronto.

Sounds like you are talking about a Futon. A futon is a type of mattress that makes up a Japanese bed. American futons are only loosely based on the Japanese original, we put them on a frame so they can be a couch and a bed.
Sounds like what you want would be easy to make. Just buy the foam (comes in many thicknesses) at any fabric store. Buy the material to sew together a (pillow) case at the same store. If you cant sew, many times they could direct you to someone who does.

I think this is the basic idea behind a FUTON.
It's a mattress, but has extra pillows for sitting, and is low to the floor if not on it.

I am not sure, but it kind of sounds like a middle eastern or indian pillow type thing?...I am thinking maybe you should try someplace like Pier 1...

A few things came to my mind from your description.
Since there are different designs of chairs they might fall into one of a few different categories.
Pouf, ottoman, window seat? Do any of these help?
I'm not sure what sort of stores might sell them in your area but you could find out by looking in the yellow pages or checking general furniture stores.
Why not try making your own or putting a few things together yourself, it can be done pretty easily and of course it will be unique and to your taste.

sometimes window seats are built into a room. it loks rectagular and sits in front of a window and you put cushions on it... or perhaps a daybed??
