Finches are wonderful pets. Depending on what kind you get, you'll need to get at least two.

Here's a short break down of some finches, how many it's best to have and how much noise they make:

Zebra finches; These are best to get in pairs, but make sure its one male and one female or two females. They are low mantinence, and they have a wonderful beeping sound that can be loud or soft.

Owl finches; Either get one in combination with another sociable species (such as society finches) or a pair. They're pretty mellow, and the one I ow doesn't make too much noise.

Orange-Cheeked Waxbills; If you get these, get a pair. They like to be around another of their kind. This particular species is small, but they're active, so a mid to large sized cage would be good. They have gorgeous voices when they feel like singing.

Star Finches: Pretty mellow, they do well in pairs or in a small colony (i.e. 1-2 star finches with a few other finches). They also are quite mellow and don't talk too much.

Soceity finches: They're name explains a lot. It's good to have 2+ of these in a small colony setting. They get along quite well and talk a lot.

Diamond Firetail: These are better solitary or in pairs (one male and one female). They /don't/ get along with other birds, and they'll pick on tthem any chance they get. They are somewhat talkative.

Gouldians: These are best to keep in pairs, they like the company of their own kind. They also hjave gorgeous plumage and wonderful voices. They are a bit on the pricey side though, so unless you're really dedicated to this you'll want to look at other species.

Canaries: These are actually quite sweet. They are very talkative (specifically the males) and it's good to get a pair of them- although they're fine alone as well. There's a much wider variety to choose from than just the yellow variety too. Red factors and green factors are gorgeous, as are some of the orange variants.

White Headed/Silver Haired Munia: My expeerience with this species is it does fine if it's the only one of its kind in a small colony setting with other sociable finches. It's a very taalkative species with a gorgeous voice.

Tricolored nun/Hooded nun/Roufus sided nun: These three are varients of the same species. They are very small and very active and do well in a single pair or multiple pairs. I'm not sure about their pricing.

Most of the finches I've mentioned are around the 15-20 doollar range. Gouldians can go for about 50 dollars each (I got mine from some lady who was moving). Look around pet stores in your area, see how well they treat the pets they sell. If a finches plumage grabs your attention do a little background research about it species before you decide to buy.

I hope this helps.

Oh wow-I had finches back in the day. They are fine, I had two a boy and a girl and then they had two baby finches (a boy and a girl). One of the girl finches mysteriously disappeared though-I think it was the victim of my brother's insanity. Better luck to you though.

it is not plenty that they are loud, it is that the noise is persevering with. From they time they awaken to while they bypass to sleep that are busy making a track and speaking with one yet another! on the topic of finches, it is many times a powerful thought to maintain a minimum of a pair so as that they have some companionship. additionally, i could recommend society finches over zebra as i hit upon their making a track plenty extra pleasent.

I have 6 of Them, they like to talk bird talk. I leave a radio on of them they make certain sounds to certain tones on the radio, they can be messy they throw water around form taking a bath, seeds everywhere. Get either a female ar a male if you have the two together guess what you get.. more, that's if you have a nest of some type. I inherited mine from my mother, that's how I got them.

Yes they are, and so are love birds, especially when you buy a pair of them, they are cute. Except if you aren't nice to them, they do pack a painful bite. Oh and you wouldn't wanna let them fly around the house, they go crazy and crash all around the place(im afraid to admit). GOOD LUCK on finding a great pet!
