Try Lavasoft's Ad-aware, or C-Cleaner, which is a lot faster. Other like historykill and windowwasher will allow you free one-month trials.

Until my bank gave me some software for free (F-Secure), I used to use Clamwin. Nowadays most antivirus also covers spyware and there is no need for a separate program. Emma C hits the nail right on the head. Anti spyware programs slow your computer down as they take up system resources. Use Mozilla Firefox in preference to Internet Explorer and you will pick up far less spyware.

AVG dont go for the pro version its not worth it just stick with the freebie, been using it for about a year now and no probs.
