They're excellent but not the most practical of cookers especially if it's something quick you want to cook or something that needs carefully heating or regulating. They're also big and heavy and in some kitchens they may look out of place of simply be impractical.

I'd certainly recommend an Aga but at the same time have a conventional gas or electric oven and hob. To me, food always tastes better cooked on/in and Aga.

If you're going for the farmhouse kitchen look then only an Aga will do (unless you're going the whole hog in which case have an open hearth range).

One thing worth investing in is a set of Aga pans - they're not cheap at up to $100 / £60 a pan but like the Aga ranges they're indestructible. If the Middle East thing escalates into all out war just hide in your pan until it's all over - everything around you might have disappeared but your oven and pans will be intact.

I'd rate an Aga as 10 / 10 on all counts (durability, economy, style etc) but it falls down on practciality where I'd give it just a 5 / 10.
