I'm not talking about, say one person acting on another person, like someone murdering someone else or a car accident or anything like that. What I mean is why would God let something, say the Tsunami, happen? I mean So many innocent people died, especailly children and I just don't understand how a just God could let terrible things like this happen. Any itelliegent answers?

Well, I'll try to answer this in a couple ways.

Extreme Religious way: God does these things because human beings are evil and have to be punished for their terrible deeds. End of story.

Religious way: God has an ulterior motive for those deaths that we can't yet see.

Atheist way: There is no God. It was wind and water spurred on by the climate at the time. Those deaths just happened.

My way: Good question. Reason number 2 why I turned away from Christianity. I think it's because God is no perfect being that sits on his throne in the clouds. I think he is a catalyst for thinjgs to happen sometimes, and that those who believe in him allow him to change their lives. I watch it like a TV show, almost. I ask him what's going on, why id this happen, but I don't get an answer. I just have to keep watching and hope there is more to it than meets the eye.

Have you read the Bible? If you look back in History we have always had things like this happen. God has control over everthing in life but we also live in the world of Sin...God does everything for a reason. Don't feel sorry for the children because they are in a wonderful place right now. It's the sinner's who would never change their ways that lost there souls. Read about Saul and David and all the battles they fought. Noah build an Ark, Moses crossed the Red Sea to save the Jew's from slavery. Look at all the men who died when the Sea fell on them, we don't feel sorry for them. We don't understand God's reason's but they are always for the good of man kind....Pray for help understanding this in your mind and God will send the answer to you...............In his name we trust.

This question has troubled humans since the time they invented God. Its a problem in Philosophy. If you accept God. You have to either invent a Devil, a worthy challenger to God, and that would NOT make God all-powerful. Or....U accept its all God's doing and he (if its a he) is a brutal dictator who does it when he gets angry.
I think a simpler and a more satisfying thing to do would be to reject the idea of God and accept nature functions according to rules which we only partly understand and rules for which there be no reason. For if everything has a reason, then there should be reason for why everything has a reason ! So it should stop somewhere....So pick whatever view point u want. Its ur choice !

Tsunami and other related disaster, makes human either closer to Him or farther from Him. I think that is the only way God can remind us, that He and He alone decides the fate of everyone.
Humans want to be independent from God, but God shows Him you can't control everything, God alone had the power.
He remind us, that everyone is under His mercy. He has the all the authority. Though He love us very much, He doesnt want to spoil us. Cause when there is peace and plenty we tend to forget Him, we are so busy with our lives seeking pleasure. Has anyone thank God for allowing him to be alive today? rarely. But everyone hate God for not allowing him to win a lottery.

The death of innocent will be for nothing, if we don't pull ourselves together to get closer to Him.

Good, Bad ,Just, Right, Wrong
these are all human concepts.
To try and anthropomorphise a god to fault for these occurrences is just ........well,arrogant in the extreme. The closest I personally think of a being such as a god is some kind of prime mover. And even in that I'm leaning towards arrogance by thinking I can even accurately describe such a being much less what it's attributes could be.

There is no god to have that happen. It just does. If a tsunami happens it is just because the earth's crust is moving about not because something wills it. It's nature...and whatever happens inbetween us humans is purely our fault. I dislike it when we blame our actions on some fictional figure like Satan or say that a god/gods cause it to happen...we are the evil.

Mmn yes I am atheist. Pardon me if I insulted you or someone but this is how I think.

God designed the universe to operate under certain natural laws, such as gravity, etc. The tsunami was merely a consequence of natural conditions. And, if you are religious, then you believe that those people are in a better place. Not to say that God is for wholesale death and/or murder.

Actually there is no difference between these forces of "nature" killing people and the violence between humans. The same principle is at work in any case. Each of us is an eternal spiritual being that has been through many millions of bodies -- on this planet and on others. Through this long journey of material life we are constantly creating reactions for our thoughts, words, actions and desires. This is the web of karma we are caught in.

Now what is innocence? If we see someone steal and end up in jail we know they aren't innocent. If we didn't see the theft, but just the result -- his punishment in jail-- should we then think he's innocent? Just because we didn't witness the negative actions a person has performed, doesn't mean that no one witnessed it. The Supreme Personality of Godhead as the Paramatma witnesses everything since He is all-pervading in this world. He is in the heart of every living being witnessing every thought, word, action and desire. So when a seemingly inncocent person experiences misery in this world, he/she is reaping rewards for actions performed in the past which may have been in a past life. Therefore, although we are not a witness to their sinful actions, the Lord was and He is giving them pain to rectify them.

This material world is a prison house. In prison you can't expect to be happy -- its meant for punishment, for rectification. This material world is meant to rectify all those who have chosen to ignore the Lord and try to be little lords themselves. Its an illusion to think anyone can be happy here and its ignorance to think anyone is innocent here. All souls in the material world are being punished.

I understand it to be like this.
God tried to test one of his angels.
The angel failed the test.
so thats how the devil was created.

Now god then gave the earth to the devil.
since he has given the world to the devil
he cant be bothered with small things like tsunamis and stuff
He is go other things to do
like comming up with a CREDIBLE answer
for ur question and not some fantastic mumbojumbo.

Now u know

He is Lord over all the earth, because he has given man free will, he takes responsibility for all that goes on. His will shell be done no mater what goes on. I know not his mind but all things that happen are for a reason. It may seem at times that its a jep here but were only going to be here for what a max of 100 years what is that compared to oh say the first 100,000,000,000 centuries of forever?
