then why is it wrong not to have one? no really, i'm being serious. you really can't tell someone they are wrong if they don't "believe" what you do, can you?

No they can't say you are any less of a person at all.

Morality and goodness have nothing to do with what you believe and how often you go to church.

It makes believers feel better to think that they will go to heaven, and probably makes them feel like they are better citizens because they are church-goers.

I believe religion is not a prerequisite for morality, and that non-believers probably, in some cases at least, have a greater understanding of morals and personal ownership of their morals due to coming to conclusions themselves.

On the contrary you could say that people who draw their morals ownly from their church/religion are less moral in their behaviour, on the basis that some seem to require threats of punishment to toe the line of decency, whereas non-believers do so just on the basis that they believe they should do the right thing regardless.

It is behaviour and attitude that is important!!!

Good question.

I say again, what are non-believers supposed to do, pretend to believe. I might, at a stretch believe in a God, but I just can't believe that this mangod was born to a virgin, died on the cross and then came back to life. I'm sorry, but I can't believe that, not without some sort of evidence.

In the meantime, I'll just try to do the right thing, and I hope everyone else does the same, for the sake of their god, or for the sake of humanity, it doesnt matter!!!

Cheers. Just be nice and don't worry about it.

Because some folks' belief systems teach them that they are obligated to tell others (those who don't share their beliefs systems) that they are wrong. It's part of the ideology. Doing so is an alleged testament of their faith (where they go wrong is in believing that claiming that it is right somehow makes it right) and not doing so may suggest that they don't truly believe. So to prove that they believe (and, by extension, what they believe is right) they must tell others who don't share in their belief system (and, by extension, tell them that what they believe is wrong).

Pretty vicious circle, huh?

Maybe if I explain this way it might be easier to understand. If you had a friend who was sick and dying and you knew (or strongly believed) that there was a medication readily available to cure him, would you not ask your friend to take it? Would you really be happy with suggesting the medication and your friend saying "Nah, I dont want to"?

You may eventually allow your friend to do it his way, but you wouldnt just not tell him about the medicine, and you would probably strongly suggest the medicine for a long time before giving up. Eventually, Christians will stop offering you this "medication that is readily available" but they are offering because they care. It's not a bad thing.

i dont tell anyone they are wrong, unless they are telling ME what I believe, and in that case they stand to be corrected if incorrect! i understand i will be persecuted for my beliefs in Christ. true Christians feel the need to gently and non -condemmingly share the love of God by LOVING others, christians or not. I am terribly sorry that some people shove my Lord down your throat.

I didn't or would not judge you as wrong. I just feel I have another truth. It is up to you to decide what you believe and not believing is a belief too.

It is funny, look into it, and you will find that even those who don't believe do have a belief system. It may be free thinking but it is a belief system.

You believe as you please. As far as it goes for me I will believe in Jesus. We will get along just fine. Some people I know would not believe if Jesus came down and showed them His scarred hands and feet. They would just say He had make-up on or something like that. I have learned that no matter what you say some people just won't. With all of the Churches, TV ministries, and radio ministries you can't say that people have never heard about Jesus. It depends on what you want to do with it.

If I believe there is a Spiritual death that curses us all, but there is a way out of it, should I try to convince you or just let you die?

Sorry to ask your question with a querstion, but does that help you to understand?

Sure you can, just don't expect to be met with glee LOL.

Psychologically people do this because it makes them feel more secure somehow. IMO if your god can't stand scruitiny - time to get another god!
