We just bought an adorable little female beagle, she is so much fun and i was just wondering if anyone had any sort of training advise of beagles, we are pad training her so any advise on that would be great, and just like behavior training would be excellent as well! Thanks!

I paper trained my puppy and gradually reduced the area of newspaper until she had to go outside. Crate training is abusive -- who wants a dog locked in a cage! It's important to praise her a lot when she does go outside, but not to punish her when she has an accident. The most important thing, I believe, with a new puppy is to take her to as many different places as you can while she's young, and get her exposed to all kinds of sights, noises, and smells. Don't pamper her if she acts frightened -- just make her put up with whatever it is until she realizes it's not going to hurt her. My puppy is now 8 months old, and loves going on the subway. She also likes thunder storms and fireworks displays, as well as going to outdoor concerts.

crate training is better, but if you truly want your beagle pad trained, i would simply put the pad in the crate until she got use to using the pad then remove it from the crate, also for behavior training problems you can fill a squirt bottle with a mix of half water and half vinegar, don't worry it wont hurt the dog its mainly the smell of the vinegar that they hate, and every time she does something wrong mist her in the face with it...

I also would go with crate-training, not using pads.

Beagles are notoriously hard to train, as are most hounds. I highly recommend the training method known as "clicker training" (you can google that for more info). For independent, easily distractable breeds, clicker training works wonders.

i would recommend using crate training rather than using pads to potty train your dog. Using pads just teaches the dog to pee inside....for obendienc/behavioral training, enroll your dog into classes at a local training facility.

If your dog ever does anything bad tell him no, and if she is a little rascal have a spray bottle and spray it in her face and say no. I would recommend crate training. If somehow it starts to hump another dog (I'm sorry I don't like saying that!) say bummer and put her on time out.

I prefer crate training for any breed of dog. Pad training teaches the puppy to pee and poo in the house....also teaches them to pee on things in the floor...when the puppy pees on your favorite book, magazine, etc....remember, you taught her that!

Crate training gives you a place to put your puppy when you can not able to watch her.

The secret is to take her out right before you go to bed, and let her out first thing in the morning to go potty...feed her...in about 1/2 hr, take her out again....make sure she pees and poos....as long as she pees and poos, she can play in the house for about an hr or so...take her out again to pee and poo again...if she does both again, let her play more...if she doesn't, put her in the crate (should be nap time now anyway)...leave her in the crate for about 1 hr (if she whines for more than 5-10 mins, take her right back outside...if no poo, back in the crate for the hr.) If she wants to sleep for more than an hr, let her then outside to potty. Feed her lunch...let her play for a few minutes, then outside again....as long as she is peeing and pooing, she can play in the house...puppies have small bladders, so take her out about every hr or so...feed her dinner about an hr before bed time...take her out to pee and poo right before you go to bed...We keep our crate in our bedroom, and if the puppy needs to go out in the middle of the night, he whines and we let him out...then right back into the crate for the rest of the night.
