It's natural to NOT want to feel the pain of something so traumatic - - but it's much healthier to feel THROUGH the pain and remember all the joy that your dog brought to your life. Grieving is natural and neccessary...... hang in there.

Losing a pet is never easy. I lost one of my cats two years ago, and i still think of him often. It's not a bad thing to think of the pet you lost as long as you are dealing with the grief. Always remember the good times you had with your dog and all the joy it brought you. You don't ever have to part with those preacious memories. That is what helps us deal with the loss. Forgetting is like saying that you never had the pet at all. Time does make it easier. I know it doesn't feel like it right now, but it will ease up. Just take it one day at a time.

Some people like think theres a place called rainbowbridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food and water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they miss someone very special to them; who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. The bright eyes are intent; the eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to break away from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. YOU have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
THEN YOU CROSS RAINBOW BRIDGE TOGETHER...

My dog Joey died May 28 1998 of liver failure due to Cushings, my beagle Blue died August 23 2002 from cancer, and my beagle Spunky died November 14 2005 in the house from a heart attack. I think about them everyday. I still cry sometimes, You never "get over it" You have to suck it up and learn to LIVE with it.

you can't just stop thinking of her. grieving is a process that u must go through; unfortunately, there are no short cuts. u might however look into getting another dog as soon as u're up to it. not to replace ur dog or anything, but as a way to find comfort and keep her(his?) memory alive. adoption is a pretty good option since both of u need each other.

Don't!
If you loved your dog, think of her every day! I lost my Rotti of 11yrs on June 29th of this yr....I have a picture of him and our puppy Great Dane on my desktop at work (it is a picture of them playing about a week before he peacefully passed under a shade tree in our back yard)....every morning that I come in, I say "Good Morning Big Dog" (aka Barron), then start my day.
