Here's an Alabama answer:
1. No, you do not need some years in college to be a police officer in the state of Alabama.
2. As long as you can do 22 push-ups in 60 seconds, 25 sit-ups in 60 seconds, and run 1 1/2 miles in under 15 minutes and 28 seconds, you will meet the physical ability requirements.
3. You can become a police officer in the state of Alabama as long as you have either a high school diploma or GED.
Those are the minimun requirements set by the Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission. Keep in mind that some departments have stricter requirements than the state minimum, but there are many departments in the state that will accept those minimums.
Any extra life experience, whether it's college or something else, will always help you, though. Besides, most departments offer higher pay for college graduates.

1.Do i have to take some years in college for a law enforcement career?Like, regular police.
some of the guys at my old department had just graduated from the academy and got jobs. but now, most are looking for at least an associates. if you are in college now and not yet in the academy, look around local police stations to see if any will sponsor you. as in you commit to their department after you are done with the academy and they will pay for the academy.
2.If i have weak arm strength, but can run fast i can still make it?
it'll be something to work on. you'll have to go through a physical. check with the department.
3.Let's say i never went to college can i still have a career in Law Enforcement?
more than likely not. mostly all departments want at least an associate's degree in law enforcement.

A lot of agencies now what their police officers to have some college if not a degree behind them. Some states will let Military cover part of it. There are so many people wanting in law enforcement they want the best. They can be pickier about who they hire. Another route you could go is to go into Corrections for a few years, take a few, classes, then apply. All of that previous training will help show that you are serious about wanting to do this. This way you will learn both side of the job. Dealing with them in the street and dealing with them inside behind the fence.

Most Police agencies now require AT LEAST a 2 year degree - some have raised it to 4 - in Criminal Justice.
If you have weak arm strength, start doing your pull-ups NOW!!
You can always go to College. Start NOW. Get a job as a Security Guard or something like that. Or join the Military and put in for Military Police or Shore Patrol. This will give you experience (which counts in College) and money to GO to college.

To get into the police academy you will need a degree of some sort, probably in criminal justice. Your arm strength shouldn't be an issue if you work on it. Good Luck

1. Here in NY you need 60 credit hours at time of appointment.
2. You need to be able to do push-ups to pass the physical fitness screening here. Depends on your age but Id aim for 40.
3. Not here in NY.
Different states/locations have different requirements. You have to do your research.

My husband is a police officer. He never went to college. He is a detective! As long as you can pass the proficiency tests and try your best you should still make it!!
