As a brittish passport holder What would I have to do to Get permanent residency status in New Zealand. How long would I need to be out there for and what kind of Employer sponsorship or other conditions would I have to fulfil.

I am going to Australia in March next year and was thinking while out there I could look at NZ. I don't have a trade as such but was thinking of doing paramedic trainingm out there through St John Ambulance who I currently volunteer for in the UK. The only problem with this is it involves going to university and I would not be able to do it on a 1 year working holiday visa.

Your best starting point is the New Zealand immigration site at www.immigration.govt.nz

There is nothing that anyone can tell you here that is not on that site. It is very comprehensive and will give you all the information you need about getting residency in New Zealand including what you need to qualify, what job skills are necessary, how to go about applying etc etc. There are numerous links to other valuable reference sites. Contrary to what people say, it is not difficult to qualify as long as you have the needed skills and/or investment funds, are medically fit and have no criminal record. If you haven't already visited New Zealand, I suggest you come for a holiday and a look see. Cultures and countries aren't always what they might seem to be from afar. I am a New Zealander and I love this country but when you are going to relocate yourself across to the other side of the world its best to make sure that the country you're going to is what will suit YOU.

Failing that, the immigration website will give you a very good understanding of what to expect.

PS: You dont have to have lived here in order to get residency. You can qualify from the UK.
