Here is the reasons to stay in Seattle:

Low crime
family friendly environment
Great community
Great schools
We will be wealthier here (housing cheaper, no state tax, etc.)

Here are the reasons to go:
Closer to Family
Great Weather
More ammenties, shopping, dining, entertainment, etc.
Did I mention median temp of 73 year round? Sandy beaches?

i'd say no to the move. looking at the points you've listed. to me, safer communities and better schools will be better in the long run... your kids will eventually appreciate you more for safety and education over weather.

sunshine is nice but safety and good educations are better!

Sounds like Seattle area is a better one to raise a family. My brother-in-laws family lives near San Diego...finding a good school was difficult (though they eventually did). But even there are gang problems. Housing is very expensive...they paid *only* $350,000 for theirs but had to move 40 miles from downtown to find it. The commute is is not easy for him. Also, that area has some of the highest gas prices in the country right now.

I live close to Seattle to and I get tired of the rain also, but this is one of the best areas. Sometimes living closer to family is a great idea until you actually move closer to them...lol. There are a lot of family oriented places around here to take your kids. Sure, they have nice beaches, but for what you are paying on your motgage here will only get you a 1-2 bedroom apartment in Cali.

i live in San Diego county and love it so i say move ........but i am a realist you have to weigh what is monetarily better, can you afford to live here, and pay for the gas you'll need to drive everywhere, Pay the taxes, ..........

i dont know where you are financially in life but moving to California could make your life harder..its not cheap to live her.....being in the military makes it easier for me to live her in Cali but if i weren't my ass would be somewhere life Seattle lol....i know the weather and being away from your family could be hard but it seems like Seattle would be the best place to have your family..especially if you have kids
