For a Catholic, suicide is a sin. For those whose faith is Islam, is suicide wrong?

I'm hoping for serious answers from those whose faith is Islam.

I know about the 'virgins in heaven' thing - but I'm hoping that is only a radical Islamist view.

A clear interpretation would be appreciated.

First you have to know Islam condemns suicide exactly like Christianity. But when they become martyr (one who voluntarily suffers death as the penalty for refusing to renounce their religion or suffers death for country) those people have a special place in heavens, and when they say "virgins" as in they will get all their heart desires. it has been translated word for word which is wrong, one should take the meaning then translate to know the real meaning. I'm not Islamic, but I'm pretty sure that suicide is just as frowned upon in Islam as in any other religion. The extreemists are following a warped view of Islam that has very little to do with what it actually teaches.

In islam Killing yourself is a sin and youll go straight to hell for it No judgment or nothing .

Even hurting yourself on purpouse is a sin [if its a medical procedure or somthing then its ok but other than that no]

this idea of killing yourself to get virgins not only is it false its stupid .

if you die while defending your family or contry or islam itself then you have a good chance to go straight to heaven .

but suicide bombing is a sure fire way to go to hell

suicide is a sin in any religion I would imagine, though as a good Christian you would do everything in your power to prevent someone from suicide. You are your brothers keeper. Though I dont know about these suicide bombers what they are thinking of.

I'm not a muslim but if you can be awarded 72 virgins for blowing yourself up I think suicide is ok and that's what it;s all about! I don't believe in this 72 virgin stuff so they have a ok to blow yourself up in the name of alla

yes of course . comiting suicide is one of the biggest sins in islam( if not the biggest)
and also being disapointed is a very big sin.let alone killing oneself. those terorists are not true muslims, they are far from it

like those crusaders who used to burn the cities or the people

suicide is wrong and suicide bombers are misguided. but think about the turmoil and injustice that would make someone commit such a heinous and reprehensible act.

suicide is prohibited in islam. it is absoultley wrong.. i dont know why people do that.. islam does not allow anyone to go blow themselfs up in crowds.
