a person is intelligent......people on the other hand are stupid and easily persuaded. pits are very loyal dogs....i've trained a few...they're just muscular.....dogs play fight....that's just a fact of nature a muscular dog may accidently inflict damage on someone while trying to play...then it's seen as an attack....or a dog may be defending it's self or it's owner...then it's an attack. if pittbulls were treated like poodles...then there wouldn't be a problem...but since they're big and muscular some morons teach them to fight rather than to shake and roll over......you teach a dog to roll over.....all it's life it's going to roll over sometime whether or not you want him to....you teach a dog to attack...it's going to attack all of it's life...unfortunately sometimes when you don't want it to.......and that's how they get their bad name...people hear on the news that "another person was mauled by a pitbul" and people begin to believe that they're all bad and genetically predisposed to attacking humans. media likes to feed people's fears because it gets them ratings.....don't hear much about every time a damn chiwaua bites someones hand.....if you did...it actually happens more often....but why isn't it on the news? because big animals attacking people gets more ratings.

The reason pit bulls have such a bad reputation is because most of there owners abuse them and train them to mean and agressive. some even train them to fight. As a result there have been many occasions where pits have gotten loose and literally mangle and kill children and adults. Just last year, here where I live, two pits, who were in a fenced yard tunnelled under the wooden fence and nearly mangled an old lady to death while she was on her way to church. Some nearby neighborhoods actually have banned people from owning them, where others like where I live, require the owners' to purchase special insurance.

Bad owners and bad breeding as given this breed the rep that they will turn and kill their owner. If you realize there is over 5 million pit bulls in this country alone you can see that the odds of getting attacked by one is some where around0.0004%. you have a better chance of being attack by a shark or gator than a pit bull. Instead of looking to get rid of the breed get rid of the people that turn them into monsters. It is already law that fighting or even training to fight is against the law. Also people who let their dogs run the streets no matter the breed should have mush harsher laws past to take care of them.

It is a simple matter of fear. It seems like there is always a breed that draws tough guy jerks who allow their dogs to get vicious- treat them badly and do not control them. When I was a kid it was doberman pinschers- there was even a movie about them called they only kill their masters. Right now it seems like the pit bull draws a lot of ignorant people who need a "bad" dog to reinforce their manhood. In a few years those guys will have latched onto some other "tough" breed and the pit bull will enjoy the same reputation the Doberman now enjoys.

Because pit bulls have a bad tendency to go from sweet cuddly doggies to killers in a split second, no warning. Other breeds don't do that. I've heard all the excuses, including "It's all in the way they're raised". That's what a lot of owners said before their cute little doggie went postal and maimed or killed someone. They're just as dangerous as having a loaded gun laying around. You never know when they'll go off.

The media highlights bad incidents, like dog bites and people being killed by this breed and by breeds that are NOT pit-bulls, but rather MISTAKEN to be pit-bulls, but NEVER do stories on the dogs from responsible, loving families that are not trained to be aggressive.
People feel the same way about Rottweillers. It's a terrible stereotype that all pit-bull and Rottweiller pet owners are Black or Hispanic and train them to fight.
It's misinformation that makes people fear and hate this breed and their owners.

I am a dog lover also. Most people confuse hate with fear.
They dont understand them as well as anything they fear.
I think pit-bulls are great. The only problem is the locking jaw that was bread into them. Your pet reflects their owner.
My friend had a pitt bull and it was defending food from a neighbors dog. They came and took the pitt without question.
They do get a bum deal. I was watching the Dog whisper he has alot of pitt bulls of his own. He said they are some of the best dogs and smart.

I would ask all those kids that have been mauled / ripped apart by Pit Bulls. I have read so many stories that have started "he was always so nice - no idea why he turned on me - I raised him from a puppy" -- this was from a lady that had all of the muscles ripped from her arm / face almost ripped off and was in the hospital for months. So as inappropriate this might seem to you, they are dangerous / unpredictable animals. So I believe the 'hate' is justified in many ways.

It seems like the majority of vicious attacks are committed by pit-bulls . . . or at least those that are reported by the media. I'm sure there are some very nice, well trained pit-bulls that go through their entire lives never so much as think of harming anyone but to be honest, maybe because of the media attention, I'm a bit afraid of them.
