Many individuals who suffer from depression use various substances to ease their pain. The problem is that whatever they use it doesn't solve the depression issue. You may drink or use and feel better for a short period of time but when you sober up you will still be facing the depression (which may get worse depending on what you did while under the influence). I would suggest you go get some help, see a psychologist or an alcohol or other drug counselor.

I used to drink because I was depressed. Alchoal is a depressant. I quit drinking and over came my depression 3 1/2 years ago. here's how i did it. 1. I had to quit feeling sorry for myself, because alot of people have more serious problems than I do. 2. i had to keep myself out of situations where I would be tempted to drink. 3. for the depression I turned it over to the lord and asked for him to come into my heart. Power in Prayer!! I have been sober for along time because I turned my depression into faith that God would not put more on me than I can bear. I will keep you in my prayers good luck to you

Depression is caused by many contributing factors. Many that are far too complex to even consider. Drinking in moderation, fine - Drinking to comfort depression - not good

Alcohol is a depressant...not good if you're already depressed...no one can tell you what to do...you have to make the choice yourself. It took me several years to find the right medication, once you find it your life changes. Try not to expect too much of yourself, a lot of us fall into that trap. You have an illness, try new medication & most importantly...NEVER give up.

Man, I feel for you big time. And the reason you don't want to get on meds? They are a bummer but you gotta decide maybe which is worse, the devil or the deep blue sea. Tough.
