The going age I've seen is 21. Some jobs will even pay half the fees if you choose to adopt. You may want to check into that. It's the reason I was seriously considering adopting, about 5 yrs ago. You also don't have to be married in order to adopt, although it doesn't hurt. I know of at least 5 single women whose biological clocks had nearly stopped ticking, and they simply wanted a baby...and got one. They will check a lot of your background, family history, your financial situation, etc, etc. Little girls of 14 can just have a child, but mature adults who want to adopt have to jump through hoops.

I don't know which age is the right one. I can tell you that it's not going to be 14 or 18 though... adopting a kid is a tough process. You have to have a job that will be able to support that child, you have to be stable and have proof of your stability ( long time at job, long time at house) you have to be living in a suitable environment. A room specifically for the child.

the agency my cousin went through to adopt a child the age required to adopted was 25....i have heard of agency's letting people adopt children at a younger age..but to me i dont think the age of the person should be an issue as long as they are willing to take care of this child and are able to mentally and financially....you just have to look around and see which agency will work best for you......

It depends on where you live. My husband and I wanted to adopt. Everywhere we checked said 21yrs. It also costs about $22,000 to adopt a child. You also have to be about 8-10yrs. older than the adopted child. I hope that helps.

I would contact your local adoption agency and ask for the guide-lines in adoption...
Give them a call. They will have the best information!

definitly NOT 14. A 14 year old cannot raise a child. 18 is the legal age... and most of the time you have to be married, you have to have a stable job and it takes a long time for them to process papers, do background checks on you, look at your info, so by the time you get the kid... its probably about a year or more later, unless you personally know the mother and she signs the baby over to you herself.
