Do they go to a public swimming pool? She also needs to wash all their bedding and toys in hot, hot water to eliminate the re-occurrence of the ring worms. Those are two likely causes. Try using good old zinc oxide on the ringworm- it's available in drug stores and is quite inexpensive.

From another person. Also Pets are carriers of ringworm. If there are pets in the house they need to be checked by a vet to see if they test postive or not. It's quite common. You can also get it via contact with contaminated soil. I work at an animal hospital and we see numerous cases of ringworm. Some people get it easier than others. I'm exposed all of the time and have never gotten it and other people I work with get it frequently. It is really hard to get rid of I hear

Do they have pets? Do they play outside a lot?

Ringworm is spread thru dirt. Not like that! If they're playing outside all the time, they can get it. If they have pets, the pets can bring it inside. My friend used to get it from working in her garden. Lotrimin is the medication that should make it go away - if it doesn't, they need to see a dermatolgist. It may not be just ringworm.

BTW - no need to get rid of the pets or keep the kids inside. Just be REALLY dilligent about hand washing and stuff.

It is actually very easy to get, and sometimes hard to treat. I have read that tea tree oil is very effective against all forms of fungus. Then cover it with a gauze pad, or occlusive pads, like Tegaderm. Non prescription anti-fungal creams, also used to treat athletes foot, can help control the rash, and maybe even clear it up! If none of this works, then contact a different doctor than the one you already tried, maybe a second opinion will do some good!

The only thing I can imagine causing it NOT to heal, and to spread is incorrect treatment as well as the possibility that they're still exposed to the source. They're highly contagious as they are..so I hope they're not in contact with other children all these past weeks. Have they gone back to the doctor?

have they been around cats? cats can die from ring worm.... kids get it, it will spread and it gets itchy... lotrimin ointment many times a day applied to each ring worm site... it takes a few weeks... if they arent getting rid of itm they may keep getting re-infested... if they are around cats, then the cats need to be checked and treated at the vet...

Ring Worm is a fungui so if they are touching the area and then touching another area it will spread. They need to be sure to not touch the areas and if they do to wash their hands right after. The key thing is wash wash wash their hands to prevent spreading.

Well, it is a fungus. My mother in law use to take a cotton ball and dab a little bleach on the spot. I tried it once when I got one on my leg. It worked in a few days it was going away.

I think I was told the reason I got it was because my little one was potty training and kept wetting himself and his bed so I would prop the clothes and linens against my lap as I got up to take them to the laundry. So tell your friend to was thier clothes and beds to prevent it from coming back.
