They usually don't do jack to remove a negative. You have to do it. Send a letter to Equifax, Experian and TransUnion, the threee credit bureas along with proof. I generally takes about three months to remove a negative report. Sorry.

To get it removed you need to contact the orignail creditor and see if they would be willing to remove it. Also Chex System is not a credit beru report but a negtive check database designed to restrict your check writing ablties and generally takes 2 weeks to update. By federal law you are allowed one free credit beru report a year so contact the three big ones and ask for it, The will probally want 10 bucks but remind them by law you get one a year. To get anythig off a beru is pain and will take 90 days if the creditor even agrees..

Even if you send proof, that you paid it, to the 3 credit bureaus, they still will not remove the negative report, due to the fact that you did pay it late. You would need to dispute it and hope they will not respond, or at least not respond in a timely manner to show that you did not pay if on time.

David is correct.

There are only two ways to get a negative item removed from your credit report. Either the creditor who posted it has to remove it, or else they must fail to respond to a disput to the credit agency.

Follow the dispute procedure and you may get lucky. But don't hold your breath.

start with annualcreditreport.experian.com
Once you print out your free report, you can file a dispute online. Be very descriptive in the date, amount, company which you paid, company phone numbers, account numbers, your former names.
If you disagree with anything else in the report, dispute that at the same time.
You will receive a reply.
You will also have to do the same with the other two main credit bureaus: Trans Union and Equifax
run a search for their sites

You might want to go to the site I've listed and do some reading. I also agree that you should dispute with the credit bureas AND also send a dispute to Chex.
