There's probably no cure, but there's lots of medication that'll help the condition. Good luck.

Although they cannot cure it, currently there are many medications that can control it in approximately 70% of the cases. Just because someone is bipolar does not mean that they cannot live a productive and fulfilling life. Just as things go wrong with the body, things can go wrong with the mind. Scientists don't know if those with emotional disorders can't "uptake' neurotransmitters or if they have too many, but they do have pharmaceuticals that compensate for both problems. It is important for the patient to use the medications in combination with psychoherapy. Hopefully, genome research will shed more light on this problem.

Well I'm a bipolar patient. It's true that bipolar has no cure. Further contrary to the preachings of psychiatrists the medicines are not at all helpful. The concept of so called mood stabilizers (Lithium, valproate etc.) is all bogus. The desease always takes its own course. When it is not passing through its extremes the psychiatrists make tall claims about the abilities of his costly, bogus medicines with painful side effects. Gradually the patient becomes very lonely and helpless. One can still try to be creative but the severe pains makes life absolutely meaningless.
Ps.
1>Be very careful about manic phases. They are more destructive. They detouch you from the rest of the world. Once detouched , you suffer more.
2> Try to be in mild depression. That way you can atleast work and do something meaningful.
2> With the medicines you get 2 types of pains -- the pains of the disease, and the pains of the side effects of medicines.
Without the medicines you get one kind of pain . The pain of the disease.
3> Never compromise with the side effects of medicines. There are antidepressants which at times depress you to the level of paralysis. As soon as u stop it u improve with in 3 days.
Example escitalopram. Psychiatrists will never admit it.
If u like I shall send u experiences of other patients collected from the net. It will help u a lot. Just write to me at paulisalone@gmail.com

There are some procedures that have been used in the past with varying success rates. One of them is a lobatamy. The new methods are not as gruesome as the old method, they go into the frontal lobe and make tiny lesions with a laser to try to correct the disorder. This is a risky operation and sometimes does not work and can be repeated if necessary. The other thing that has been tried is "shock therapy" where they sedate the patient and give them electrical shocks that cause seizures. This is thought to "reboot" the brain. The person is hospitalized for as long as a few months and the procedure is performed several times.

Bipolar is an Axis I mental health disorder that does not have any cure. In fact most scientist will state that it stems from a chemical imbalance but they are unable to determine a cause. However, that doesn't mean that its symptoms cannot be treated. Medication has been known to help but therapy can be a great aid as well because it can teach people how to deal with the symptoms that they are experiencing.

A cure? No. But can it be managed so that you may live a normal life? yes, there are many medications for managing bipolar disorder, and you may have to try a few, or combinations. My daughter was on three meds at one time, tried just one, but it wasn't enough, and is now on two. You have to work with a doctor to find the right meds for you. And when she didn't have insurance, the state had a program to pay for her doctor and meds.

It depends what you believe. I don't believe that being diagnosed with a mental illness is a life sentence. If one can address the emotional issues in their life it is often helpful. There are many ways to get on the road to doing it. One is The Journey at www.thejourney.com
There are plenty of intuitive healers out there too. There are also some nutters so watch out. You will learn to know the difference.
I have personally done a lot of emotionally baggage dumping, and it is hopeful to know that there is a happier life out there waiting for you. Not only do I feel better, but my relationships with my family and friends have improved too.
People say mental illness is a chemical reaction in the brain. Laughing also causes a chemical reaction. Everything causes a chemical reaction. Why dull this with mediation instead of getting to the root cause of why you feel bad? Good luck.

No cure, but can be treated with medications. I have been on lithium for 5 years and I live an absolutely "normal" life. The meds have not stifled my creativity or caused any side effects. I am very pleased with my treatment and my doctor. I work full time and am also a student.
The patients who claim that medication is just a cover up or keeps you "loaded" or in a fog haven't found the right medication for their illness. The key to overcoming this potentially detrimental illness is communication with your doctor and caregivers.

There is no one cure for the bipolar disorder, but through proper treatment and therapy the problem can become less prevalent in one's daily life. Medication can also be a very large "band-aid" in the healing process of the chemical inbalance.

Nope. My mom used to be on 5 drugs at once and 24/7 suicide watch. She wrote a book on her recovery. www.thesepaintedwings.com
Me and her use a program called Truehope. It's not drugs, it's natural. It also has about an 80% success rate, as opposed to the average 30% of prescription meds. www.truehope.com
Please consider this if you need help with bipolar.
