They should be a friendly face when customers walk into the restaurant.

They should organize the seating of customers. They need to know who has reservations, who doesn't, who needs space for a high chair, who has a wheelchair, how many in each party, etc.

They need to be able to answer the phone and take reservations.

They need to be able to communicate any customer special needs that they hear from the customer to the rest of the staff.

They greet and seat guests, take bookings, troubleshoot and help out the wait staff if it gets very busy. They sometimes take care of adding up the bills and taking payment from customers if there is not a cashier.

shes the chick you always see standing at the front takes you to your seat answers the phone comes if theres a complaint and yea perttymuch does all the work having to do with problems

Generally, they seat people, keep up with reservations, maybe answer the phone.
