I have the Sony DSC-H1 5.1 MP camera, and a 1 GB Memory Stick Pro Duo.
The camera says 400 pics at the highest resolution and Fine quality.
This makes sense because the average file size of the compressed JPEG pics is about 2.3 MB.
2.3 MB times 400 pics = 920 MB, which is about all you get out of a 1 GB (1000 MB) card. (The rest is storage overhead.)
Have Fun!

Theoretically a minimum of 1606 at the highest quality settings. Here's the explanation...
5.1 megapixels is the number of dots your camera is capable of using in order to capture an image.
Because of the way images are stored (jpeg compression, 1 byte = 8 bits, blah blah blah) the actual size of the saved image is considerably smaller than 5.1 megabits - it's a maximum of 637.5 kilobytes (5.1 megabits ÷ 8 bits per byte)
Your 1 gigabyte stick has 1,024,000 kilobytes of space available meaning you can store a minimum of 1606 pictures (1,024,000 ÷ 637.5).
From my experience thoery and practice aren't always the same thing - my 512 megabyte stick should in theory hold 803 high quality 5.1 megapixel images but in reality it's probably about half of that. On the basis yours is the same then you're still looking at about 800 pics.

1 Kilobyte = 1024 bytes
1 Megabyte = 1024 Kilobytes
1 Gigabyte = 1024 Megabytes
Figure that your camera will take between 500 and 650 pictures on highest quality.
Take a look at the indicator in your camera's lcd screen because I have a Sony T-7 camera like that too and I know for a fact that all SONY cameras tell you exactly how many pictures can be taken, as you select from lowest to highest image quality.

It should take around 200 on the highest mega-pixels.
Usually you won't need that high of a resolution unless your doing professional photography. I'd stick with no more that 3 mega-pixels for personal use. No point in using up so much space if the pictures are for just personal use.

Put the disk in your camera, turn it on. Right on the display it should tell you how many it can hold. If it runs anywhere near my cameras capacity, you are looking at about 600 pictures.
