My younger sister is 10 years old, and honestly a really mean person (I'm not saying this because of some dumb sibling thing). She says horrible things about our grandmother who does SO much for our entire family, and who my sister used to follow around like a puppy, until she had a sudden change of heart. She constantly disobeys my parents and they always back down and don't follow through when they threaten to punish her. She can basically get away with anything, and she knows it, and she knows & enjoys the fact that she is mean to our entire family. I know she has a good heart deep down, but lately she has just been out of control. There haven't been any changes in her lifestyle so I don't think that would be it. I'm just getting so sick of having to deal with her.

livingdeadgirl and sausage fingers: Sometimes I wish I could do that!! Because it seems like talking doesn't get through to her. And she is very full of herself and thinks she is really "popular" and stuff, and that everybody copies her, and I keep telling her...one day when she's older, somebody is going to beat her up. Sad, but true.

First thing you have to realize is that you can't control your sister. It's your parents job to teach her to be nice and have respect for others. Sometimes parents try and their kids still go through their stages. You can do your best to be a good influence. It won't take long before her peers put her in her place if she is really all that bad. Not to mention if she continues to grow up and be a jerk, life will not be much fun for her. Maybe your mom and dad should take her to counseling.

You need to sit her down and explain to her that the things she has been doing is hurting others in your family that it's really not nice and that if she do not straighten up then you will be the one to in force her punishments you also should tell your parents how you feel about her being so mean to everyone it's not healthy for a child her age to be mean and to do things that are not nice to other people she would not like it if everyone stared to act cruel towards her.

She might feel neglected, like she needs to act out to get attention.
Your parents need to follow through on punishments.
Also, your sister might feel that she needs to be treated like an adult, not a child. This might be where the disobeying is coming from. If she wants to act like an adult, you treat her like one. Don't talk down to her or command her to do stuff. You might be able to scare it out of her by collecting tax on her allowance or something.
Good luck.

It's not your job to control your sister. It's up to your parents to discipline her consistently and follow through on what they say. If they don't know how to do that, maybe some family counseling would help.

You can't do much about it because you are not the parent which is sad because you sound more grown up then they are. Tell her shes not going anywhere with you until she learns some manners.

It could be a sign of ADHD, or also i would hate to say it also a sign that she could have been "abused" by someone.
check out this website and try finding your own by looking it up online.
good luck and remember to tell her you love you and you always hope the best for her
you could also try talking to her sister to sister.
just be patient with her.

sounds like your parents need to give her an a$$ whoopin'. either that or be strict and not let her get away with it. if she does something bad, take something away from her. if she does something else, take something else away....or for longer.
there's no reason to disrespect elders.
