I give my cats cat nip and play with them for a while before I go to bed each night and this causes the morning antics to be delayed until I get up. Some cats need a lot of stimulating/chase play time with their owner. Flashlight beams, strings, feathers on a string sticks and anything else that your cat can chase are good to use.

Before you go to bed you have got to give that cat at least two hours of playtime. When my wife and I had young cats they would wake us up around that time, it drove us nutz! If you can give a least two solid hours of hard playtime, I guarantee that cat will sleep through the night. Use something like a mouse on a string, and make him run, leap, roll on the ground to get it, once he his no longer interested in it, he's tired and you can all sleep in.

My cat is the same way. Only she does it when my alarm goes off at 5am. I think they sleep all night, and want to play with someone or something in the morning.

I had that happen with the exact same cats. I eventually had to separate them at night. It was crazy. No one slept and my older cat started getting really pissed at him. Keep a spray bottle of water handy too.

cats are nocturnal creatures, meaning they are up at night usually hunting food. i had a cat that used to play at night all of the time and one night i kept hearing a crinkling noise ( like a candy wrapper or something) with whatever she was batting around. i got up to look and she was playing with a wrapped tampon and batting it all over the house and against the walls!

But, cats will pretty much so whatever they want. Ifit is "you" that he is bothering - don't react - the cat will learn to leave you alone until you get up as long as you set the rules... but it takes time to teach a cat whose boss.
