I have large parrots and add fresh fruit to their diet whenever I can, but sometimes the fruit flies overwhelm me.

Leave out a small bowl of vinegar, and, or red wine near the birds cage (make sure the parrots don't get unhappy with them) and the fruit flies will go to the vinegar/red wine. Works for me and my guinny-pig who eats fruits.

You can build a fly trap using a 20 oz soda bottle, a small cone of paper, and some bait (such as mushed up bananas or peaches).

Put the fruit into the bottle, and tape the cone of paper point down onto the mouth of the bottle. The cone should have a slightly larger than fly sized hole. Once the flies end up in the trap, you can pop it in the freezer and reuse it a couple of times, or throw it away.

you can also leave out a shallow glass of red wine. It also attracts and drowns fruit flies.

The only way i would think would just be, to keep the cages super super clean. Clean it everyday and eventually they will dissapear.
