I get sick of hearing kids online (Kids would be anyone under 25 or so) complaining of being bored especially while online.

I can't imagine ever being bored. Actually I would love to have a lot more time to do all the things I'd like to do.

As one who teaches, I know what you are talking about.

First of all, Western culture is in part to blame. Many of the young people growing up are used to having entertainment provided for them.

Second, there is an organic reason. The adolesent brain is still developing. The consequence of this is that it is that a good number of the youths out there tend to be impulsive. This doesn't bode well for maintaining sustained interest. (It is interesting to note that the connection between the "bored" complaints and the type of complainers (most of the time young males but not exclusively) is not a fluke.)

Third, too much leisure time is another problem. And, this is true across the age groups. Idle time leads to complaining. (Frankly, I'm glad to hear the 'I'm bored's'. At least it hints that really bad behaviours haven't been considered yet.)

I read somewhere (a German psychology book, "Vom kuessen, kitzeln und gelangweilt sein") that being bored is part of the growing up process. However, I think that nowadays kids are more bored and up to an older age than it has been before. This is probably part of the "new way" of raising kids, them spending there past time in front of the computer, instead of going out, having there own adventures and let their fantasy and imagination taking over.
Once you are stuck in the day to day routine, there is almost no time being bored with all the responsibilities that come with adulthood.
That is only my opinion, and only, because today I am kind of bored, too. But luckily there is Yahoo-Clever :-)

There is little for the younger generation to do other than sit around watching TV or be on the computer. There are only a few things that hold the attention of the young and if that gets old for them then they are bored. In the old days the children had things to do and responsibilities. They did not have the luxury of sitting around with nothing to do. If there were chores to do and other things like that then there would be less boredom.

They aren't kids. Kids are midget impressions of adults that go outside and play. These things today are aliens. They are always on something electronic, and miserable out of their little heads. They are always doing something they ain't suppose to be doing, My ENTIRE family (even my 4 year old sister) was raised old school and we all know better than to be going out getting high and having sex. We do what we're told and with no smart talk, if we don't do it right, we'd get the belt. We learned how to respect other people and their belongings, and in this case, keep each other from geting bored.

Kids these days are bored because of technology. Technology has taken away their imagination. When I was a kid, if i got bore, i would create something to do, these days, if it ain't on tv or in a video game , there world just stops moving along with their brain.

Kids are not given enough responsibility. If they had chores to perform, things to be responsible for they would value their free time much more. Ask a kid in a huge family what their chores are and they will tell you they are always busy helping out. Same with kids on a farm, they have to take care of something besides themselves.

i have no idea.. i guess its because when children get old they get jobs and if they are a stay-at-home-mom then they have tons of house cleaning to do, and if they are a stay-at-home-mom who's rich then they would be able to spend hundreds of dollars having fun. Kids just have short attention spans so that they cant do things for that long without getting bored

Boredom is the result of unharnessed intelligence. Challenge them. There is no excuse for the attitude of the modern school system. Kids NEED a good challenge!

Have them research something, like free energy, antigravity, alternative medicine, or whatever piques their interest.

I blame it on the parents using television as a babysitter. Day care centers possibly contribute by making a kid used to constantly interacting with other kids. Either way they are not taught or encouraged to entertain themselves.

They are bored because they won't get off their fat azzes and do anything. They sit on the computer all day doing nothing and claim they are bored. my advise is get a mive on!! Quit being a lazy little turd and do something with yourself.
