I want to hear from the thinkers, the one's that would love to get a message across...the one thing you wish we would just GET!

just curious!

I wish more Christians would try to think of faith and logic as two separate, incompatible things. Granted, people that try to "combine" science and religion usually have the best of intentions, but how can believing something through faith be ANYTHING like believing something through logic? If people want to have faith in loving, harmless beliefs, that's fine. But faith can't be questioned, or proven, or disproven. That's what makes it different from logic. I wish there wasn't all this "melding" of science and religion, by Christians or for that matter anyone. I wish people would stop trying to pull physical or historical evidence to prove or disprove faith - it's a waste of time and it is impossible, because faith and logic are contradictory. If you want to have faith, have faith! But this continuous practice of interpreting the bible more and more loosely in order to make it "fit" with modern times, and modern science - these people who turn Genesis into one giant, vague analogy for evolution - these people who search for evidence of Noah's Ark - is there a point...? Isn't the idea of faith to have...umm...faith? It's akin to a scientist, in order to cause a chemical reaction, waiting patiently for Jesus to give him a sign of which solution to add to the mix. Jesus may or Jesus may not - but it's not how science is done, nor is it what science is about, nor is it a logical way to go about solving the issue...it is a faithful way. So keep faith with things of faith and keep logic with things of logic, but is it so bad that they ARE two different things? Would it be the end of the world if we admitted that really, science and religion DON'T mix very well?

Sorry that was long-winded. I really like this question and as an atheist, I'm wondering if I would be brave enough to ask the same thing of Christians!

The main misconception I have seen amougst the adults is that atheists/agnostics are dumb or it is in our nature to be murderorous (I'm not joking).

The Bible teaches you the Christians in Romans 1:28-31 that all non-Christians are murderous and in 1 John 2:22 that all non Christians are liars (and anti-Christs).

So I have through my interaction with people I've met here and took the conversation to instant message and 360 proven to them along with the many agnostics and atheists who are my friends that that preconceived notion isn't true.

So the one thing is an all encompassing thing, that I and many other ADULT agnostic atheists are genuinely nice loving intelligent non-violent people.

I also have taken something away from yahoo answers regarding my preconcieved notions of the religious right.

I really have only met a few of the "religious right" fundamentalist Christians.

The majority of the adults I have talked to off line are really more moderate than anything.

Specifically with the gay issue the media portrays a stereotype of the man with the sign that says gays will burn in hell, but the overwhelming majority of Christians while they oppose gay marriage are for gay rights like going to see the loved one at a hospital or holding a job.

So this expiriment yahoo answers is a human one for me and the many friends I've made here.

So its a two way street of this "one thing" that we both have learned, that the stereotype of the other isn't true.

Does this mean I have defeated the harsh image of Paul and John? Perhaps, perhaps, obvoisly the apologist will say thats not what Paul and John were saying, but on plain reading, thats what I took out of it, and there are other Christians who do also, so the apologetic agruement isn't necessary for me,

I'm not an Atheist, but I wish that they would understand that the TRUE god would not have written the OT. This is not the god Jesus spoke of. I do not understand how they can justify that except for the fact that it is in the bible.

And that brings me to number 2
I wish that they would educate their selves in some other works. The other (Sumerian and Babylonian), accounts of creation, the flood, the tower of Babel and the Egyptian book of the dead. It is obvious that the stories in the bible came from these polytheism stories, they are way to similar. And I wish they would not try to argue that with some illogical viewpoint, (like how do we know that science is correct). Science has dated these writings and they are over 3000 years older that the oldest written part of the bible.

one element that i'd choose athiest to comprehend is that the bible has had an prolonged precise wisdom in issues technology has in basic terms come to these days comprehend. one would desire to turn to the bible for its source and analyze, in view that this is extra a scientific question one can not yet god and technology at the same time with out the word 'faith' coming alongside. SO, HOW nicely DOES THE BIBLE delay against technology? interest 26:7 "he's streaching out the north over the empty place, marvelous the earth upon no longer something." The e book of interest what executed around 1473 BCE. It took guy till the early 1900 whilst Edwin Hubble got here upon that the universe is increasing, and nonetheless especially much one million/2 a decade later whilst guy landed on the moon to acutally see the earth 'marvelous upon no longer something." So why didnt they think of that the earth became into supported upon elephants and turtles like Galileo theory. Isaiah 40:22 - there is guy or woman who's living above the circle of the earth...the guy who's stretching out the heavens in simple terms as a gauze..." some translaters have translated circle into "Sphere." Didnt early explorers think of that the earth became into flat and you should fall off the side. If in basic terms human beings have examine their bible, and as quickly as back we come around the word 'stretching.' what do scientist say approximately this? in Stephen Hawkings "a quick background of time' he has an entire financial ruin devoted to this and the call of this financial ruin is stated as "The increasing Universe." SO HOW DID ISAIAH comprehend THIS? whilst the telescope became into invented with the aid of like Galileo. HOW would AN historical CIVILIZATION comprehend THAT those issues EXSISTED especially much 3000 YEARS earlier modern technology got here upon IT? IF this is been precise ON a scientific SCALE WHY would this is incorrect IN different factors? i in basic terms get to respond to ONE issues yet i ought to shop on going as a results of fact there are alot of alternative issues that i ought to declare that would completely give way the athiest mentality yet for the sake of the guy asking the question i visit proceed to be to my answer being 'THE BIBLE IS precise ON a scientific SCALE."

One thing that you should get is the fact that you are being unconscionably and unknowingly manipulated. Christian 'Dominionists' (Reconstructionalists, theonomists) have largely usurped the local level political apparatus of the Republican Party, and are engaged in a sub rosa process to politically motivate moderate Christians under the false cover of religious issues such as morality and family values. The goal is nothing less than the takeover of all elective offices in the USA.

Their doctrine comes from the Bible, starting with the term 'dominion' at Genesis 1:28... “And God said unto them, [Adam and Eve] Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have DOMINION… over every living thing.” They interpret DOMINION as: “... a supremacy in determining and directing the actions of others or in governing politically, socially, or personally.”

They want to remake the USA as a theocracy... and they are succeeding.

Its most common form, Dominionism, represents one of the most extreme forms of Fundamentalist Christianity thought. Its followers, called Dominionists, are attempting to convert the laws of United States so that they match those of the Hebrew Scriptures. They intend to achieve this by using the freedom of religion in the US to train a generation of children via home-schooling and in private Christian religious schools. Later, their graduates will be charged with the responsibility of creating a new Bible-based political, religious and social order. One of the first tasks of this order will be to eliminate religious choice and freedom. Their eventual goal is to achieve the "Kingdom of God" in which much of the world is converted to Christianity. They feel that the power of God's word will bring about this conversion. No armed force or insurrection will be needed; in fact, they believe that there will be little opposition to their plan. People will willingly accept it. All that needs to be done is to properly explain it to them.

All religious organizations, congregations etc. other than strictly Fundamentalist Christianity would be suppressed. Nonconforming Evangelical, main line and liberal Christian religious institutions would no longer be allowed to hold services, organize, proselytize, etc. Society would revert to the laws and punishments of the Hebrew Scriptures. Any person who advocated or practiced other religious beliefs outside of their home would be tried for idolatry and executed. Blasphemy, adultery and homosexual behavior would be criminalized; those found guilty would also be executed. There are two conservative Christian pastors in Texas who have advocated the execution of all Wiccans. Ralph Reed, the executive director of the conservative public policy group the Christian Coalition has criticized Reconstructionism as "an authoritarian ideology that threatens the most basic civil liberties of a free and democratic society."

By failing to openly confront this insidious agenda, we have sown the seeds of our own destruction, while these religious wing-nuts are paving the way to Armageddon with gleeful anticipation.

I'm agnostic, but I would really like for some Christians to understand that I'm perfectly capable of living a good, moral life without Jesus. And that I have no God-shaped hole, my life is good, and I am happy.

science.

quit trying to prove your faith, b/c then it isn't faith. once you can prove it, it will be science.

OK, I can't stop:

atheism is NOT a religion - it is the LACK of religion.

you are not being oppressed just becasue you aren't allowed to legislate or otherrwise impose your superstitions on th rest of us

god hasn't been removed from schools. students can still pray, and if they aren't allowed that right, the ACLU will take their case. what was struck down was forcing a captive audience to listen to prayer and proselytizing.

god is not necessary to be moral and ethical. or happy.

the concpet of circular logic - god exists. why? becasue the bible says so. why is that true? becasue god wrote/inspired the bible. why is god real? because the bible says so. ad infinitum, ad nauseum.

the pledge didn't have "under god" in it originally, and Eisenhower's own words when it was placed there are CLEARLY a violoation of the first amendment (paraphrased, he said the reason for putting under god in the pledge was so that millions of children in school everyday would recognize god). blatantly unconstitutional.

I wish Christians would understand that religion is a personal choice, not a matter of government or public policy.

I would like for Christians to respect me my Agnosticism-Heresy. It seems that if I don't accept Jesus into my heart that I am a bad person...I don't, won't, and can't do that so I just want to be left to my belief system and not be attacked with Jesus this and Jesus that. PEACE!

I'm a Buddhist which to most is very close to atheist, but its really not. anyway, the one thing i would like Christians to understand is that i have the right to believe in or not believe in anything i chose. countless Christians try to convert or save me, i don't need saving. i don't try to convert Christians. just let me be me.
