The Bible (in it's original languages) was inspired by God, written by men. It is however the Word of God, just like Jesus is The Word of God. Knowing the Bible is knowing the mind of Christ. Not much use in it if were just another book with good ideas in it. There is a lot more power in it because of what it IS rather than just what it SAYS.

First of all, God did not write the Bible, men did; Scribes and learned men. Most were from the very rich families, and copying was not only an artform, it was mathmatically checked and rechecked for accuracy. Second, the Bible states: "All scripture is God breathed." In other words, God was the inspiration.
There are two religions in the world: Works, and Faith. The first religion, Works, is any religion that relies off the deeds of man. The second, Faith, is the religion that relies off the death and ressurrection of Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ. Christ means, annointed one. So, Jesus of Nazareth, the annointed one.
Jesus preached salvation for those who previously could not be saved. Those who thought they couldn't go to heaven, or the after life. He taught peace, love, patience, kindness, lovingkindness, joy and self-control. We find out all of these things through the Bible; or, the word, the inspired, Word of God. And, in this book, we find that the actual "Word" of God, is Jesus of Nazareth, the annointed one. Not only is Jesus the "Word of God", He and only He in history has claimed that He IS God. We can find his story in the Bible.
However, even if there was no bible, the greatest book ever written, or printed, or published, or even purchased... the story of Jesus would live in our hearts through His Spirit, and that Spirit would (and is) be a living testamony to truth.
Atheists are just people who think about God probably more than people who believe in God.

There are very obvious truths that Christians must follow. We must love God above all other things, we must love others as ourselves, we must let our light shine before men, etc.
However, taking away God's word could lead to many perversions in what we believe. This could come about by the false prophets that are spoken about throughout the Bible (namely in Revelations concerning the end times), or by false Christians who want to twist the truth to fit their own lives. This is a very easy thing to do with the Bible while studying it without the Holy Spirit's guidance, let alone going without it.
Also, reading the Bible is an absolute must for Christians in order to be able to defend themselves against temptation, false information concerning Christianity, etc.
"Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God- Matt 4:4"
" Put on the WHOLE armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil... And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God-Gal. 6:11,14"
So, I guess it's pretty much apparent that we need God's word in order to be a fruitful Christian. I also think that God cares for us enough that he would never allow for the Bible to be completely taken away from us.
Take care.

The purpose of Christianity is not to be a successful religion, but to keep lost people from hell. The Bible helps keep "'us" honest and informed. No human can remember what is in the Bible-so how would we keep doctrine straight over 2000 years? It is far too easy for satan to trick a believer and make him think he is hearing from God. We can alwasy test everything we hear by the Standard, the word of God.

This question is difficult to answer, because Christianity is based on the Bible, a book written by God. So, if there were no Bible written by God, it probably never would have started.

Last I checked God didn't write books. If he did those books would all be best sellers and God would be rich and would would asking for all those "donations." All religions are founded on the best of intentions. If only they could keep those intentions to themselves and quit trying to convert the planet. I am not an atheist, just an animist. The books I read are all written by man.

They would need to consider the words then, that means they would need to understand and think about the meanings and intentions the ancient authors were trying to express. To found a religion on it would be like trying to found a coherent religion on the works of William Shakespeare and Lewis Carrol, or any other literary anthology you might care to choose. It might be just as sensible but without the divine word and the cultish death worship features it would not likely succeed.

Maybe It could, but then they wouldn't be able to just make up alot of stuff and say god said it or it's in the bible so unless the whole religion became much more open minded and tolerant of other people and others views, it would not survive.

The bible was not written by god. Many believe that there are things added and changed in the bible by men.

For many people past present and future, who never see the bible, the beauty of creation points to God. I think the Bible is important, the divinely ispired word of God, but not essential.
