with a hyperactive thyroid, people tend to loose weight because the increase in thyroid hormones increase the BMR (basal metabolic rate, aka resting metabolism). the clinical presentation and symptoms that can be experienced include: heart palpitations, nervousness/anxiety/hyperactivity, warm moist skin, increased bowel movements, heat intolerance, light or absent menstrual periods, shortness of breath, insomnia, weight loss, increased appetite, increased heart rate, atrial fibrillation's, trembling hands, muscle weakness, difficulty concentrating, ,mood swings, cough, and exopthalmos (buldging eyes).
Some causes for an increase in thyroid hormones can be : graves disease, hyperfunctioning thyroid nodule, plummer disease, subacute thyroiditis, and more.
it may and may not result in a goiter (enlargement of the thyroid gland itself).
hope this helps and good luck

There are a lot of symptoms of a hyper thyroid. You can suffer hair and weight loss-anxiety- fatigue- weakness- rapid heart beat- sweating- diarrhea- and eye or vision changes. This can be serious. The thyroid sends out stimulating hormones to many different organs of the body and if everything is getting overly stimulated, that is why you might expect so many different symptoms. If you feel this is your problem, call your Dr. and they will probably order a t4 test and that will let them know if your thyroid is working right. good luck

When mine was hyperactive , I was very nervous, my hair was falling out , I was extremely tired. I woke up just as tired as if I hadn't slept. My hands would shake. I lost a lot of weight. My period lasted for 2 -3 weeks and was very heavy. I could eat a ton and still felt hungry.
