As a child... it is chicken pox. As an adult, tends to be more serious. It is a virus, that may lay dormant for quite awhile and then flare up again... similar to cold sores. Once you have contracted the virus (once) the best thing to do is to try to prevent flare ups, as it is now in your system. It is NOT like chicken pox in the sense that once exposed you are immune... however if you had chicken pox as a child, you will be safe. (Also extremely contagious and dangerious to elderly, pregancies, and anyone with an immunity disorder) Hope that helped.

Yep. It's caused by the same virus as causes chickenpox. The difference is, shingles is a result of a compromised immune system. If you are taking immunosuppressants or have a disease like HIV, it certainly is possible to get shingles more than once. I know; I've had it twice.

Yes, it is possible to have recurring bouts of shingles. This is because "shingles" are caused by the virus "herpes zoster". Once you have contracted it, it is with you for life. It shows up as a periodic outbreak when someone who carries it is subject to a "trigger":
excessive stress, lack of rest, and may even have some dietary triggers.

Yes it's quite common to have recurrances once it's in your system to sit dormant then recur if exposed to the virus again or at times of major stress.

Definitely, absolutely yes, you can. I had a friend who got them a lot the last ten years of his life...and, just as painful every time!
