Uuu.... Well, depending on the age, a talk would be necessary, and you should reflect on what you may have been tolerating in the past. If your child is a baby, that's a little out of the ordinary. If your child is a todler, he/she may be desplaying a behavior out of anger, or doing a "monkey-see-monkey-do" thing. No tolerance to the behavior is the best key. Don't go crazy over it, just make sure your child gets the point and most likely he/she will not do it again. Check his/her surroundings too, in case anything has triggered the child.

I hate saying "time out" but... time outs would be required. Each and everytime a child does this send them to time out. When they have finished their time out, explain to them why they were there, why their action was inappropriate, and if it continues, ask them how they would feel if someone was doing it to them. This is simply so the child might begin to understand that it's not something to laugh about... or to enjoy. If the child continues to do it... and they are a bit older... i'd have them write it over and over again... until you feel they have learned their lesson. "I will not slap or spit on people...." I had to do this as a kid...and man...... I hated it. On the other hand...it worked like a charm.

Our children went through a spitting stage until we made them sit with a bar of soap in their mouth. If your child slaps your butt then you slap his hand and tell him No, that's not nice to touch Mommy there.

Time outs over and over. No exceptions. After the time out, let him know why he was there and why it will continue to happen if he does it again.
