it may not work either.... caffiene is supposed to "calm" them, but it works for some, while not for others... in my nephew, cokes and tea did not work, but a cup of coffee with a little cream and sugar worked well on him...
but none of them worked on his brother, and he was put on Adderal which is better than ridlan.... and has less side effects....

From years of experience with a ADHD child, I have learned 2 things that may help you--1st make sure your child really has ADD or ADHD...there are other conditions that are missed diaginosed as this problem. 2nd --if the diaginosis is correct the caffeine in coffee, chocolate and other things in some children will work like the medications to treat this condition. The caffeine should have a calming/focusing effect on the child not the reverse!

I am not a doctor, but I have come in contact with many families with children who have these problems... and in EVERY single case... their doctors have told them to take the kids off of ANYTHING that has caffeine... not only drinks, but chocolates too. They are told to do this because it makes the effects of the ADD and ADHD WORSE... to my knowledge NO ONE is USING caffeine to treat these problems.

I am not a doctor but from my personal experience with people with ADHD ( my ex and step father have it) caffeine effects those with ADHD differently than it effects those of us without it. For example, if I drink a cup off coffee, I am wide awake. If my ex drank a cup of coffee, he would fall asleep. It has a negative effect on those with ADHD. Just like Ritalin makes those of us without ADHD speed up, it slows those with ADHD down.

Caffeine is a stimulant that has some abiltiy to stimulate the inhibitory areas of the brain just like ritalin. This is not a safe thing to do because of the side effects that caffeine brings.
