I am a South African and my great grandparents come from germany and I wanted to know if I can apply and if so where and how can I start going about this?

Your question is not clear. Is it a visa or citizenship that you want?

German law allows the child of a German citizen to acquire citizenship at birth, but the law does not go back to grandparents or great grandparents. You are South African and have no special rights of abode or travel in Germany due to your ancestry.

Apply for what? A visa for Germany? As a South African, I don't think you need a visa. You certainly don't need one for Switzerland, but then that agreement was made during Apartheid - they didn't anticipate blacks making use of it.
Great-grandparents don't entitle you to German nationality if that's what you really meant.
