When I moved into this houseshare (there are five of us), it was supposed to be a non-smoking household, as I have asthma I thought I had made the right decision. Now he says 'I used to smoke before, now I started again, circumstances change etc'.. Should I destroy his Marlboros or spray air freshener or what... So far I have not had asthma symptoms, but the smell drives me mad.

I've considering moving, but it's kind of expensive and I can't afford to pay deposit. I might talk to the landlord. I just think it's wrong this guy just advertized this house as a 'luxury non-smoking house' when we were searching for a new housemate. THIS guy isn't the landlord even though he think he is.

Don't do anything crazy like destroy his cigarettes. That will only cause more trouble. Make sure he is aware of your asthmatic problems and ask him nicely not to smoke in the house. If that doesn't work, go to the landlord and let him/her know about the problem with your smoking housemate.

Who is the landlord? If this was supposed to be a non-smoking house then you need to complain to the right person. If nothing else, they should make your housemate smoke outside ONLY. Not in the house.

You need to sit down and have a meeting with him and your other housemates and explain that the rules were set whenever you all moved in and that he needs to respect that and smoke outside also is smoking allowed in your apartment I would find out and if it is not then you have a reason why he cannot smoke in your apartment

If you destroy his cigarettes,it will only cause more hard feelings. But maybe he can agree to smoke outdoors only. If that doesnt work and the landlord can't help, it may be best to move on. Is it stated in your lease non-smoking? If it is it may not be you that has to move.

Ask if he can smoke outside because your asthma condition is acting up... i'm sure he'll understand....just make sure you say it in a very good nice tone of voice so he doesn't become vengeful.

Tell him to take it outside. Its not just asthma you have to be concerned with. Hes rude to make you breath in his cancer causing habit. When I smoked I did not smoke around non smokers.
