I have to send in 26 MB of .avi files, but they only allow 5 MB, how do I shrink the size of these things? (without creating any kind of compressed files.) I prefer mac but I would be fine with windows too. I'll even buy software. I'd like to keep them as close to the original resolution as possible, would converting to .mov be better? Does Quicktime Pro do these sorts of things? Thank you very much!!!!

Avi format is already a compressed format. The only thing you can do is uncompress it and see if you can compress it again with a stricter compressing settings, but i can tell you there is no way you can recompress 26MB into 5 and keep anything close to original quality. Can you setup a download server? Burn it on a CD?

Go to http://www.download.com or http://www.softpedia.com and look for a program that will convert your AVI to an mp3 file. Most mp3 files are only 5 megs.

If its a video, then you might want to convert it to a .mov file or better yet a .mpeg file, but you still may have to compress it so that it will fit in that 5 meg range. Movies are big files.
