I have a friend that has a rocky marriage. And she seems to want to fix it by getting pregnant. And my sister recently got into a fight with her husband that resulted in the purchase of a dog. Is this normal, and, if so Why?

From my expericance when a relationship is in trouble one or both people are too busy with the battling that either is getting the attention or love they need so "Lets have a baby that will love us and bring us together" but often with in a few years it is a single parent home. Pretty much the same with the animals for the attention and love. But people need to learn if there are problems from the start they won't go away until they are dealt with. Animals and babys are not banaids

it is normal to take our minds off our problems by adopting a new pet. they actually help us deal with every stress better. but, having a baby in a marriage that has 'issues' is not responsible. majority of marriages today, end in divorce. having children is best for happy couples ready to take on the responsiblity, although, pregnancy can happen unexpectedly, and can enhance some relationships, but is not the answer to troubled ones.

eh.. i dunno if this is normal. lol

but i do know that getting a dog worked wonders for my family. Me and my dad had a really bad relationship for a few years.. i even stopped talking to him for about a year. But then after we got a dog, we both loved our puppy so much and started talking about her and it just gave us a chance to talk about something not related to school and grades. Its been 3 years since then, and we have a great relationship now.

it gives families a way of communication about non-sensitive subjects and gives ppl more in common.

People hate to admit defeat and they think by bringing in something new it will magically save everything. They're wrong and it won't, but they'll learn that.
