I've had my hearing tested several times now as I think I sometimes don't hear as well at certain frequencies?

But I've been told that I hear at frequencies most people don't hear at and even score higher than can be recorded. I made only one mistake -and said a word that rhymed with the actual word spoken.
The problem is this, when I'm watching tv sometimes I don't hear what someone said-the words seem to run together.
But yet I can tell people word for word what was spoken upstairs or downstairs in certain buildings. Eg I was attending a Business School and would constantly amaze people that I could hear everything they said in the Lunchroom in the basement although there were no floor vents that the sound could rise from. I also live in a high rise condo and amaze my neighbours by telling them what they said and who visited them next door and even in the apartments above me and below me. Again there are no floor or ceiling vents as in a house where I could possibly hear through. Why is my hearing so good at times and bad at other times?

I wonder when you find things "running together" if it is occuring in noisy situations or when there is other noise going on at the same time. Or, does it occur only when you are tired?

I also wonder if you are female. Studies have shown that men can block things out and hear only one conversation (or none) which is why they so often do not hear what family members are saying to them and later respond with, "You never told me that!"

Women do not have this ability to "tune out" what is going on around them. Their hearing is often overwhelmed with all the background noise.

Since your hearing tested normal, I would recommend a visit to an ear, nose and throat specialist...if you haven't already seen one...just to be sure that you don't have some other issues.
