when you join the military, that becomes your priority. period. if you want to finish your education, then do so, but don't expect that if you enlist the military will allow you to pick and choose your schedule. they will expect all of your focus to be on what THEY are teaching you.
By fifnishing you dgree, you may be eligible for a Commission, so there is that also to think of.

thats a hard one, you would have to find a cooshy job that is near overstrengthed and get an assignment somewhere where your MOS would be highly required (i.e. a medical feild in a hospital that is not in a combat division.) Even then however, there is still the chance that you will deploy because those types of jobs are few and far between and Soldiers are shuffled in and out of em anually. Basically, you can avoid one year of a deployment if you are lucky enough to snag an asignment like that, but all the other years, well, pray to whoever you want that you don't get deployed. Your next asignment will most likely be to a less cushy job like a feild medic.
You can continue your college over seas however. The Army offers college cources in a classroom type setting while deployed in some citys and bases (although cvery few) and there is even an online program called EArmyU where you simply continue college on the internet and it is completely self paced while deployed and it also does not take away from your G.I. bill for college after the military. I beleive, and don't quote me on this one, it gives you around 4,000.00 anually for online college cources.

Based on the structure of your question and sexist hope that they would "take a guy" before you; just one recommendation. Stay out of the military. The military is about service first and you second. I'm glad you want to finish your schooling. Join after you finish if you still care to but dash any thoughts that you have any less of a chance of being deployed to a war zone then the next guy...or gal.
I am a former army officer, combat arms-FA. I also recently returned from Iraq as civilian contractor with the DoD working with the troops in Baghdad and the Kirkuk/Tirkit area. And the only MOS I didn't run into was a veterinarian assistant. Now that's assuming the Army still has them. They did when I served....many years ago. I don't support or condone the direct efforts to avoid hazardous duty assignments at the possible expense of others but I'll toss that idea out. Besides, if Vet assistance are still an MOS, they are needed....someone has to stay in garrison. Just don't take too much offense if people refer to you as a REMF. Nothing personal. Good luck and please don't join if you are not willing to accept being deploy to Iraq. Save yourself the grief.

Don't bother joining. You already have a bad attitude. We don't want you. Besides, the deal with the Army is that they will fund your college....AFTER you serve your enlistment. Not BEFORE.
Also, there is no job that you can get into that we keep you from deploying. It's all about the unit you go to and if that unit goes, you go, regardless of your job. Whether you're Combat Arms, Combat Support, or Combat Service Support, you'll be deployable believe me. So if you're afraid, and only want to come in for the benefits, don't bother.
There is no such thing as a free lunch. You take the bad with the good, because you don't get somethin for nothin!!
By the way, sex has NOTHING to do with deployment.....just do us and yourself a favor and stay away from the military. Its people like you who want to take, take, take and let someone else pull your load so your lazy a$$ can reap all the benefits.
POS!

I have a nephew in the guard for 2 years he's infantry but never gone over seas. Another nephew that's in communications that is in the air force that has never been in combat but has been to japan a lot. How ever I have a son who was in the army as a medic and with in 3 month of his training ending he was shipped to Iraq. It wasn't no hospital job either. He was a front line medic. Where his unit went he went. He had to preform surgery in the heat of battle. So even medical does not guarantee you won't see combat. Good luck with your decision though.

Do you play a musical instrument? The Army has Reserve and National Guard Bands that play for parades and ceremonies on weekends and during the summer. You'd be very unlikely to ship overseas and you would be able to finish your college career while the Army pays you the G.I. Bill and perhaps Tuition Assistance, depending on your state. Talk to a recruiter if you're interested. He or she would be able to tell you more.

There is no job that will keep you out of the war zone. As long as you are in a unit that goes over, you'll go.

The GI Bill is retroactive. You can finish your education, then join the Army and the GI Bill will pay off your college loans.
