I want to bolt a camera to a car and get long, steady shots of landscapes going by. Big, flat, open landscapes without too much going on in the frame. Any recommendations for places to go around the new york area, not more than a couple of hours driving? Thanks!

You can take the Long Island expressway to the end, and go either to the North or South Fork. On the North Fork, in particular, there are many winery's and farms, which are big, flat and open just like you want. It is about 1 1/2 hour drive from NYC. If you would like more information on how exactly to get there, let me know.
Here are two websites (both North Fork), one of Long Island Wine Country (http://www.liwines.com/) and the other has more information on the North Fork including how to get there. (http://www.northfork.com/). You won't have to worry about many hills or any mountains, like in upstate NY. If you head out there to take some pictures and have some extra time, I suggest that you go to Greenport, it is an old fishing based town. Good luck.

I'm from upstate NY and am having a really hard time thinking of flat terrain for you to film. NY tends to be more rolling hills/mountains, as compared to the Mid-West which would have more flat terrain. You can try upstate (Ithaca, Syracuse, Buffalo), but I doubt that's what you want. Good luck!

There are some marshes around Marine Park in Brooklyn I believe. I know someone who takes pictures of open marshes and birds there. Maybe also by Mill Basin in Brooklyn as well.

Yea she is right.

Long Island is about it bro., unless you go to Western Ohio. Plenty of nice flat country side there to photograph.
