my hair is straight and black but after i shower, my straight hair forms a layer of coarse, curly, frizzy, and unruly hair on top of the straight hair. after a day it seems fine. my hair straightener will not flatten them out. if any of you know a good product or cure for this problem-please tell me! (my mom has it too-she says its generic but all i want is soft, smooth, and straight hair) THANKS A LOT!

i know this sounds Gross, but try not to wash it often. your natural oils smooth it out after a day, like you said, then you wash them away. i had the same problem, until i went to a once a week regimen. it was hard at first, but i just get my hair wet in the shower like usual, and only add conditioner if needed. Most black girls i know don't wash their hair but once a month, and most Mexican girls i know are on an every two week system.

Sure, I have your same problem. You just need to use the right product. After you get out of the shower, towel dry your hair so that it's still damp but not dripping wet. From there, apply some styling gel. My favorite is "Straight Away" by Frederic Fekkai, which can be found at Sephora. It's pricey, but it works. Some comparable, but cheaper, products are anything from Tigi BedHead (they're all quality). Apply a dime to quarter sized amount, depending on its length.
From there, blow dry. The dryer is also an important choice; if you're using something cheap, like Con Air, you're going to get worse results than a professional product like T3 or Hardcore.
Finally, use a good straightening iron. I recommend splurging for these items, because they last a really long time. Good irons are Sedu and Chi. Hope this helped!

The top layer of your hair separates from the rest after it's washed and dried because the protective scalp oils have been washed away, and it's prone to static electricity. That's why it tames down after a day. To counteract this, it sounds as though you need to use a good conditioner after your shampoo, and leave it on the hair for several minutes before you rinse it off. If you normally blow-dry your hair, let it air dry instead, and use an anti-frizz product on it when it's dry. This will help calm down the frizziness and add extra shine.
