The dog would be left for a maximum of two hours, as we have a neighbour who would be able to let it out for toilet. it would be left in a crate, or a bed. It would have toys to play with, and when we get home, it would get love and attention, and the right training.

It would be better to get a cage for the dog, just don't try any of that dominatrix stuff.

Labradors so do not like to be left, are you sure you want this breed. I know they are lovely but as puppies will chew everything. I have one who as a pup chewed through the kitchen units, the rug and the back door. If you must have a Labrador leave him lots to chew, if you believe in them bones are good, if not a stuffed Kong will keep him busy but as Labs get fat careful what you use to stuff it. It is good you have a neighbour to let your puppy out, if they can give him a few minutes play each time that would help a lot. Start leaving him as soon as possible so it does not come as a shock. Just a few minutes at a time and gradually build up. Good Luck Labs are wonderful animals and will love you on sight for life

My Lab was left alone as soon as I got him (8 weeks old). It was hard to leave him when I left for class, but he eventually got used to it. Keep him in a crate rather than a bed -- that works great, keeps him out of trouble in the house, and really speeds up potty training. Two hours is fine, especially if your neighbor is going to let him out. I increased time in the crate with my puppy's age and potty training progress. I eventually got to where I could leave him for 6-8 hours while at class/work.

Leave a towel (or t-shirt with your scent) in the crate and a chew toy for him to play with. Once he calms down, he will probably sleep a lot anyway. Just make sure he gets lots of love and play time when he's out of the crate, and he will be just fine! As he gets older, make sure he gets lots of exercise when not in the crate. I quickly learned that my Lab was more willing to go in the crate when he was exhausted rather than full of energy. Congrats on the new addition!

Puppies as young as eight or ten weeks should be fine to be left alone for as long as an hour or two. However, anything more and they will need to go to the bathroom. I would suggest definitely getting a crate...this will help immensely.

A puppy (6-12 weeks)can be left in a crate up to 3 hrs.

An older puppy can be left between 4-6 hrs.

Please put your puppy in a crate and crate train him/her.
Come home to a live puppy in a crate, not a dead puppy because it got into something while you were not home.

I am assuming you will be crate training the puppy. The rule of thumb is as follows....1 month old, one hour in the crate, 2 months old, 2 hours in the crate etc, etc,

If you get a kennel it'll be fine. I have a 4 month old pup who is left in the kennel 6-8hrs a day when I'm working. It helps keep your house from being destroyed by the dog and house trains them.

not under 8 weeks old if the puppy is 8-12 weeks old and cries a lot while you are gone try putting a windup clock under a blanket it kinda of sounds like a mother's heart beat. that way it wont think its alone. but 2hours and with someone checking on it regularly it should be fine for that long alone

You could leave a puppy home alone after it is 8 weeks old but it will probably take revenge on you for leaving it behind and destroy your garden and other valuables
