Losing weight usually involves a reduction in your body's fat stores.
When you diet and exercise, fat is used for energy. The body "burns" it similar to the way your car uses gasoline -- it converts it into energy, and expels the waste from your body any way it can (sweating, excrement, etc.).

if you're losing fat when you lose it it gets converted to energy which you use when you workout or do somethingm calories are for energy, that's why they are cut down on in most diets, so people are working off their fat instead of calories you just ate. Fat is just stored energy.
