all dogs, especially those with a high metabolism such as small breeds and toy breeds, need at least 10-13 hours of sleep throughout the day. Most will be active when you are around or when you are with them. the rest of the time, they will be looking for a place to lay down and fall asleep. Its normal behavior.

I have a 3-year old dachshund who's the same way; that's just how the little wiener dogs are. They'll play as hard as they can and suddenly crash. I've never had one who could self-regulate his energy (and I grew up with them!). They do require a lot of sleep, so no worries about amount of sleep. The time to worry is if your pup starts to act lethargic, feverish, or sick in any way. Aside from that, snoozing is a way of life for our spoiled babies, we could only hope to be so lucky :).

Puppys eat sleep poop, pee and play. If he is playing strongly and healthily, eating 3 good meals a day, and getting as much water he needs, then he's ok. They sleep alot off and on thru the day. So do adult dogs. If he is lethargic and limp, get him to the vet.

our fur-kids, labs, also sleep most of the day away while I am working around the house but as soon as Dad gets home they are all play for hours. Or during the day when they get let out to piddle they run for 30 minutes. Its a dogs life sleeping the day away while we slave for them.

Dog's greatest treats in life: food and sleep. Play is nice for awhile, but sleep rules.

well sometimes dogs seem to get bored if their not entertained and i guess some dogs would just sleep to have the time pass by until they are played with again.

If he's a puppy, don't worry about it, puppys need their sleep. If it's older he probably needs to sleep as well.
