Thomas, I know you are probably desperate for answers, but you are not likely to find them here. Not many physicians/surgeons hang out here, and they are who you need to be asking.

I understand your bewilderment. Seeing your own father acting this way can be frightening. Spots (white spots) on the brain are caused by more than one condition but the spots indicate areas of damage. Depending on where the damage is located, different brain functions will be affected, such as memory, speech and cognition (the thinking and reasoning process). Confusion, what you are calling disorientation, is a common result.

Your father's present condition didn't happen overnight. He has probably had an underlying condition developing over time and may have had multiple conditions (diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, brain aneurysm). You need info? So do I. I would need your father's complete medical history as well as imaging reports and blood tests. Since this is impossible as well as farfetched, I suggest that you and your family get together and write down every single one of your questions and concerns. Your mother is the one to arrange to meet with your father's doctor and get your questions thoroughly answered by the one person who has all the necessary information at his/her disposal and is qualified to do this. Don't end the session until you understand completely. How is your mother holding up?

Any problem with the brain can cause disorientation and unfamiliarity. You need to talk with your father's doctors/nurses and ask about this. Every brain injury is different.

Could be a number of things... Dementia is often credited to "white spots" on the brain. Dementia, which is memory loss at a critical stage. Anyway, I will pray for him... You can pray for him too...

God bless

Please ask your doctor these serious medical questions. He/she knows what tests have been ordered and what the results are. How do any of us know your father's history?
Why are you asking complete strangers to take guesses as to what is wrong with your dad?

He could have mild amnesia. Check the medications for side affects or one of his symptoms could be amnesia/hallucinations. Hope he gets better. : )

You do need to talk to your father's doctors. No one here can diagnose your father's condition.
