I have dyed my hair for 20 years, and have used many different products, all are about the same really. Do not use anything with balsam in it though, it is very hard on your hair. I have found that Natural Instincts is a very good hair dye. It does not smell bad, and is gentle on your hair. I dont know if you are going lighter or darker, but if you are going lighter, the best is frosting. La Petite is a very good frosting kit. It brings the hair color up perfectly. Good Luck.

Ideally, go to a salon. If not feasible, I recommend Loreal also. The least damaging would be a demi-permanent. But they won't lighten you color, they can only darken or change the tone of your natural color. A good store-bought color for Demi-permanent is Clairol Natural Instincts. Whatever you do, don't buy Feria. It's very harsh. It is made by Loreal, but it's very harsh! Good luck!

Just go to a hairdresser , in the long term it work's out cheaper, because lightening hair at home, is not a good thing, because home hair dyes are only meant to lighten two shade's.. and risking any more time then what is recommended will kill your hair, You could go dark at home by a few shade's. Try L'oreal, they've always been ok for me, and they have a good after moisturiser in the pack.. But if your doing anyting else, see your hairdresser.

Never die you hair by yourself because it damages it serverly. You should always go to a professional because they know how to treat your hair after it's dyed.
