no but it makes it a lot easier to unmold...just make sure after the cheesecake is chilled you dip the pan in hot water to help it unmold. you also can line the pan with wax paper and it helps.

No, but it's the easiest way to unmold it. If you must use a square pan, try covering it with parchment paper or non-stick foil. The easiest way to do this is to turn the empty pan upside down. Mold the parchment paper or foil over the bottom of the pan. Remove it carefully. Turn the pan and the parchment or foil over. Put the parchment or foil in the pan.

you can also line the square pan with baking paper, so that it lifts out easily.
as it is a fragile cake, and you don't present it upside down, it is generally easier to use a spring pan, but as long as you are careful, there is no problem.

NO! I've made loads of cheesecakes and I have never owned a springform pan! Gee, I never even knew that one was considered necessary! And neither did my cheesecakes! They came out just fine, thank you.

Yes you need to use a spring form pan for cheescake

No way. Whatever shape you want it in, just make in that shape of pan. I usually use a rectangular pan myself.

no you dont.....my mom makes hers in a square corningware dish sometimes,,,,comes out just as yummy too.
and i have seen it in foil pans and regular metal pans as well

NO JUST LINE THE BOTTOM OF THE PAN WITH WAX PAPER SO IT DOESNT STICK AND MAKE SURE YOU CHILL IT LONG ENOUGH SO IT STAYS TOGETHER

no you can use a square one too. Just a sharpe knife after so it is easy to cut out .
